Background

Chen Qing awakens injured in Uncle Po’s fisherman's hut after a star rain over Falling Star Lake. His memories are fragmented; he cannot determine whether he has been reborn or reincarnated, and he recognizes that this martial world is not the one he knew. The only clear remnant of the incident is the burning star mark on his left palm. 1

While recovering in Falling Star Lake Village, he discovers that the mark produces a gentle but immense energy he calls star power. His rapid healing, unusual perception, and growing strength quickly set him apart from ordinary martial artists. 1 2

Appearance

Chen Qing is a young traveler usually dressed in a simple blue robe, faded from travel but suited to movement. He has sharp eyes and carries himself with a composed, understated presence that others find difficult to read. 12 18

  • A distinctive star-shaped burn mark is present on his left palm. 1
  • The mark occasionally glows with a warm, jade-like light under strong moonlight. 2
  • He is often seen with a bamboo flute after beginning his southern journey. 24 29

Personality

Chen Qing is calm, observant, and difficult to provoke. He rarely boasts about his abilities, even when martial artists mistake him for a hidden master, and usually describes himself as a traveler who knows only “a bit of basic martial arts.” 10 11

He has a strong instinct to protect vulnerable people. He shelters A Ning after finding her bullied and isolated, defends Uncle Po from a ruffian, saves strangers targeted by assassins, and intervenes against corruption in Qingshui Market. 1 2 9 26

Although compassionate, Chen Qing is not naïve. He reads danger carefully, avoids revealing more than necessary, and prioritizes the safety of his companions over reputation or convenience. 12 15 31

Abilities & Skills

Star Power and the Ancient Star Ruins Scripture

Chen Qing’s cultivation differs from conventional internal energy. His star power originates from the palm mark and is refined through the Ancient Star Ruins Scripture. 2 8

  • Strengthens his body, senses, and recovery rate. 1 8 9
  • Forms a protective layer of starlight capable of stopping or dispersing attacks powered by internal energy. 12 19
  • Can dissolve the cold, insidious internal energy used by opponents such as Shadow Fox. 12
  • Continually tempers his body even outside formal meditation. 9
  • Extended combat depletes his star power; his defensive starlight is not inexhaustible. 20

Spiritual Perception

Chen Qing can sense living beings, terrain, energy flows, and nearby threats without relying on sight alone. This ability began as underwater perception and develops alongside his cultivation. 2 8

  • Initially senses objects and creatures within roughly ten feet beneath Falling Star Lake. 2
  • Detects hostile movements, concealed assassins, and unstable terrain. 9 14 15
  • Sees through portions of the Misty Marsh’s fog and illusions by directing star power into his eyes. 15
  • Identifies the true body among Faceless’s physical shadow clones. 20
  • Allows exceptionally precise control, including perceiving and countering Old Daoist Wu’s dice manipulation. 28

Martial Arts and Star-Powered Combat

Despite lacking a traditional martial lineage, Chen Qing fights with exceptional speed, precision, and adaptability. His methods include finger-force, palm strikes, acupoint attacks, movement techniques, and temporary enhancement of ordinary weapons. 1 9 14

  • Breaks a saber’s tip with a finger flick. 1
  • Uses leaf-supported footwork to cross Falling Star Lake and rescue a drowning child. 1
  • Disarms armed opponents by striking their wrist acupoints. 9
  • Projects condensed star power as lethal finger-force. 12 19
  • Infuses ordinary steel weapons with starlight, briefly making them sharp enough to cut through enemy arms and weapons. 14
  • Can kill or incapacitate groups of attackers while protecting allies. 4 14 19

Star Vortex Pull

A divine ability of the Ancient Star Ruins Scripture that creates a distorted force field centered on Chen Qing’s hand. 20

  • Pulls weapons and opponents off course as if they are caught in a vortex. 20
  • Creates openings against stronger or more experienced enemies. 20
  • Was used to unbalance Hall Master Absolute Thorn before delivering a finishing blow. 20

Star Shattering Fist

Chen Qing’s first offensive divine ability. He condenses his star power into a single fist strike with overwhelming destructive force. 20

  • Crushed Hall Master Absolute Thorn after Star Vortex Pull broke his balance. 20
  • Destroyed Faceless after Chen Qing identified the Lord’s true body among his clones. 20
  • Requires substantial star-power expenditure when used at full force. 20

Healing and Medical Knowledge

Chen Qing combines practical knowledge, herbal remedies, and star power to treat injuries and illness. 2 6 10

  • Saved a villager’s sick ox using an improvised herbal broth and his perception of its internal energy flow. 2
  • Treated the Wolf King’s severe injuries. 6
  • Removed and treated Liu Meng’s barbed crossbow wound while clearing harmful internal energy from his meridians. 10
  • Recognizes harmful properties in the You Lan Stone and warns General Li Chongshan about the danger of prolonged exposure. 16

Music and Flute Techniques

Chen Qing rapidly develops skill with the bamboo flute through the control granted by the Ancient Star Ruins Scripture. 24

  • Learns basic flute control at an abnormal rate. 24
  • Teaches A Ning songs and uses music to comfort her. 29
  • Uses the Star River Roaring Waves Song to defeat Old Daoist Wu and frighten nearby jianghu listeners. 30
