Background / History
A Ning's surname and origins are unknown. She initially lived alone in an abandoned shrine at the edge of Falling Star Lake Village, surviving on scraps and occasional charity. Villagers regarded her as a mute, and she was thin, guarded, and dressed in faded patched clothing. 2
After village children, led by Er Gouzi, harassed her and destroyed the small bundle of food and grasshoppers she carried, Chen Qing intervened. He gradually earned her trust through small acts of kindness, including returning a grasshopper she had made and teaching her to read simple characters, weave grass crafts, and listen to stories. 2 3
During the wolf attack on Falling Star Lake Village, A Ning pleaded for Chen Qing to spare the Alpha Wolf. When the gravely injured Wolf King later appeared at the Black Pine Forest, it submitted to her by touching its forehead to her shoe, recognizing her as its master. 4 5
The Wolf King's presence intensified village suspicion toward A Ning, with some villagers calling her a possible monster. Chen Qing ultimately chose to leave the village with A Ning and the Wolf King. 7 8

Personality

Her time with Chen Qing, Uncle Po, and the Wolf King gradually makes her more expressive. She becomes determined to learn self-defense, shows compassion even toward the wolf that attacked the village, and begins speaking in short but clearer sentences. 4 7 22
A Ning is especially drawn to unfamiliar stories and music. Yan Yunxi's jianghu tales interest her, while Chen Qing's flute-playing captivates her enough that she attempts to imitate and learn it herself. 11 27 29
