Background / History

Lan Tianye was raised by the Golden Saber Lan Family, a Western Regions family involved in the jade and wine trade. His father considered him talented but unsteady, hoping he would remain home, learn the family business, and eventually inherit it. Lan Tianye instead left a letter and secretly set out for the Central Plains, determined to become a hero renowned for combating injustice. 27

He first encounters Chen Qing in Pebble Town, where he intervenes to defend an elderly farmer from bullies. Impressed by Chen Qing's composure and strength, he immediately asks to travel together and follows Chen Qing and A Ning south despite receiving no definite invitation. 22
