Background / History

Di Jun conceived the Heavenly Court after Di Jiang founded the Underworld, viewing a heavenly institution as the necessary counterpart to balance Heaven and Earth. The planned court required territory, a fortune-suppressing treasure, and enough personnel to govern the stars, manage clouds and rain, and oversee the Primordial World. The Sun Star served as its initial foundation, while Di Jun’s He Tu Luo Shu was intended to suppress its fortune. Di Jun, Taiyi, and Fuxi recruited cultivators from Purple Cloud Palace, using persuasion and force to build its first cadre. 62 64

The Heavenly Court was formally founded in the thirty-three heavens during the Heavenly Marriage of Di Jun with Xihe and Taiyi with Changxi. Di Jun declared its purpose before the Heavenly Dao and Hongjun: to govern the heavenly stars, regulate yin and yang, establish order, and bless sentient beings. Both the Heavenly Dao and the Ancestor of Dao recognized its legitimacy, and immense merit and fortune descended upon the new institution. 68

Although its destiny was initially intertwined with the Demon Clan’s, the Heavenly Court was established as an independent power rather than a Demon Clan subordinate. It became a major force after repelling Candle Dragon with the Star Array of the Myriad Heavens, drawing large numbers of rogue cultivators and Great Powers to its ranks. 68 70 71

Di Jun later incorporated the Heavenly Court into the Demon Clan and assumed the title of Demon Emperor. This association made the court a focal point of the Demon Clan’s fortune, but also exposed it to internal struggles over celestial legitimacy and control. 71 89 121

After Di Jun’s death, Taiyi succeeded him as the sole Heavenly Emperor and Demon Emperor. The court’s fortune became precarious after Jieyin and Zhunti withdrew their support, leaving Taiyi to preserve its authority amid the Great Tribulation. 143

Taiyi and Changxi later led the Heavenly Court in severing its ties of destiny, bloodline, and authority with the Demon Clan. The separation achieved Taiyi’s goal of independence, but destabilized the court’s own fortune and provoked Candle Dragon’s retaliation, which severely injured its officials and army with Great Heavenly Divine Thunder. 257

Following the Investiture of the Gods, Taiyi and Changxi were deposed as Heavenly Emperor and Heavenly Empress. The court was reorganized through the enfeoffment of new gods and the restoration of the Four Emperors, creating a new celestial order. 405 406 410

He Luo Great Array

Di Jun and Taiyi used the He Luo Great Array during the Heavenly Court’s early war with the Demon Clan. Together with their Spiritual Treasures, it helped withstand Kunpeng’s first attack. 70

Appearance

The Heavenly Court occupies the thirty-three heavens, centered on the Lingxiao Treasure Hall. Its celestial gates are guarded by golden-armored Great Luo generals, while rainbow bridges connect floating immortal islands, treasure pavilions, and star-bearing palaces. 68 76

Major Arcs

Establishment and Rise

Di Jun’s recruitment campaign created the Heavenly Court’s initial framework, including two corpse-severing Quasi-Saints and dozens of Great Luo and Primordial Unity cultivators. The court was then established in the thirty-three heavens and recognized by the Heavenly Dao. 64 68

Conflict with Candle Dragon

After accepting defectors from the Demon Clan, the Heavenly Court endured two attacks by Candle Dragon’s forces. The Star Array of the Myriad Heavens forced Candle Dragon’s retreat and transformed the court into a recognized top power. 70 71

Demon Clan Integration and Collapse

Di Jun joined the Heavenly Court to the Demon Clan, but the arrangement brought continual conflicts over fortune and legitimacy. After Di Jun’s death, Taiyi inherited a weakened court, while the departure of Jieyin and Zhunti further damaged its fortune. 71 90 119 143

Calamity Dissipation

Under Taiyi and Changxi, the Heavenly Court operated the Star Array of the Myriad Heavens to convert Chaos energy into spiritual energy and reduce the calamity qi infecting the Primordial World. Primal Heavenly Venerate later reinforced the formation with saintly power. 146

Alliance with Humanity

Xuanyuan used the Sky-Connecting Jianmu to connect the Earthly Immortal Realm, the thirty-third heaven, and the stars. He, Taiyi, and Changxi then declared the Human Race–Heavenly Court alliance, merging their destinies. 216

Separation from the Demon Clan

Taiyi and Changxi cut the River of Destiny linking the Heavenly Court to the Demon Clan. Although the act secured formal independence, it weakened the court and triggered Candle Dragon’s punitive attack. 257

Investiture of the Gods

Taiyi and Changxi were removed from their divine offices during the Investiture of the Gods. New divine positions were conferred, the Four Emperors were restored, and the reorganized Heavenly Court was established as the governing structure of the Three Realms. 405 406 410

Demon Court Invasion

The Demon Court judged the Heavenly Court vulnerable due to factional division, imprisoned officials, and Golden Spirit Mother’s seclusion. Taiyi marched on the Nine Heavens to reclaim the throne, but the Heavenly Court assembled its remaining forces at the West Heavenly Gate. Golden Spirit Mother activated the Star Array to blunt the Demon Gods’ assault. 609 610 611 613 614
