Background

Taiyi and his elder brother Di Jun cultivated in seclusion within the Sun Palace after being trapped on the Sun Star. Both pursued Hongjun's Three Corpses Dao while nursing a desire to avenge their earlier defeat and flight at Candle Dragon's hands. 62

When Di Jun conceived the Heavenly Court as a heavenly counterpart to the Underworld, Taiyi became the plan's principal enforcer. He accompanied Fuxi in recruiting former Purple Cloud Palace guests, using Solar True Fire and overwhelming force against those who refused to submit. 62

Following the Heavenly Marriage, Taiyi married Changxi, received the title of Eastern Emperor, and helped establish the Heavenly Court in the thirty-three heavens under Di Jun's rule. 68

Appearance

Taiyi is described as peerlessly handsome and imposing, retaining the majesty of long imperial rule even after losing the Heavenly Emperor's throne. In battle, he manifests as a colossal Three-legged Golden Crow wreathed in Solar True Fire. 340 445

Taiyi is intensely proud and unwilling to subordinate either himself or the Heavenly Court to another power. When Taihao publicly severed the Demon Clan's ties to the Heavenly Court, Taiyi regarded it as an intolerable denial of the authority he and Di Jun had built. 255

His pride is balanced by a strong sense of responsibility toward Di Jun's family and his own followers. He negotiated with Candle Dragon to protect Xihe and the Golden Crow descendants, yet later chose to abandon the rescue of Bo Huang and the Ten Great Divine Generals rather than reduce the Heavenly Court to Taiqing's vassal. 151 326 327

Founding the Heavenly Court

Taiyi served as Di Jun's martial arm during the recruitment of cultivators, choosing powerful targets such as East Prince Gong to establish the new regime's authority. He became Eastern Emperor when the Heavenly Court was formally founded. 62 68

Sole Heavenly Emperor

After Di Jun's death, Taiyi became the sole Heavenly Emperor and Demon Emperor. He inherited a weakened court sustained largely by his Sun Gold Wheel and Xihe's Moon Golden Wheel, while suspecting the Saints' involvement in his brother's death. 143

To protect Di Jun's widow and children, Taiyi yielded the Heavenly Court's claim over the He Tu Luo Shu's karmic bond and Demon Clan fortune to Candle Dragon. He then established Yang Gu as a protected refuge for Xihe and the Golden Crow children. 151

Haotian and Yaochi later ambushed Taiyi within the Peach Tree Ren Water Great Array. Taiyi devastated the battlefield by drawing down the Sun Star, but the resulting Karma led to Heavenly Punishment and the loss of his Sun God position; he and Changxi were subsequently deposed as Heavenly Emperor and Empress. 345 350 405

Vice-Master of the Jie Teachings

After the Investiture of the Gods, Taiyi and Changxi joined the Jie Teachings. Shangqing appointed Taiyi Vice-Master, and Taiyi reunited with Bo Huang and the Ten Great Divine Generals after their imprisonment in the Myriad Demon Atlas. 413

Kunpeng approached Taiyi on Golden Ao Island and appealed to his hatred of Candle Dragon, his duty to Di Jun, and his abandoned identity as Demon Emperor. Taiyi later joined Kunpeng in a campaign that culminated in his confrontation with Taihao. 530 585

During that battle, Taiyi achieved the union of world and body, destroyed Taihao's formations, killed Taihao, and reclaimed the He Tu Luo Shu and Myriad Dragons Atlas. 599 601

Seeking to restore the Golden Crow Heavenly Emperor's orthodoxy, Taiyi led the Demon Court against the Heavenly Court. Changxi remained at Mount Sumeru to stabilize the Demon Court's fortune while Taiyi commanded the expedition. 610

Taiyi and Changxi later fought Xuan Shuo with their Yin-Yang formation but could not overcome his Black Tortoise Dao Body. Xuan Shuo's forces annihilated Taiyi's ten ancient demon gods while holding Taiyi away from the battlefield. 627 629
