Background
Yin Sha Valley was allegedly formed around an ancient massacre: millions of fleeing Great Shang Empire soldiers, nobles, and pursuers fought to the death in a dead-end gorge. The accumulated corpses, resentment, and ghosts turned the region increasingly cold, Yin Sha-infused, and haunted over the ages 1.
The sect established its headquarters on an artificially flattened mountain at the valley’s center. Its foundation is only one to two tens of thousands of years old, but it rose to top-sect status during the last ten thousand years 1 311.
Its reputation is built on Yin Sha cultivation, ghost arts, harsh internal competition, and uncompromising protection of its disciples. While the sect is considered evil by the wider world, its members include disciples of differing personalities rather than uniformly cruel cultivators 77 225.
Headquarters and Territory
The sect occupies a naturally hostile region where the terrain traps cold northerly winds, creating year-round Sha Winds and dense Yin Sha energy 1.
- The headquarters stands atop a mountain whose peak was sliced away by immense Spiritual Power, leaving a platform for halls and pavilions 1.
- Its buildings are decorated with skulls, Fierce Ghosts, malevolent gods, and Fierce Demons 1.
- The main gate is said to be constructed from white bones and bound Vengeful Souls; refined Nascent Souls of defeated righteous sect ancestors serve as ghost infants within the Myriad Sha Array 1.
- The Mountain Protecting Formation regulates flight within sect grounds and automatically punishes violations 118.
- The sect’s territory includes direct-control regions governed by its caves and residences, as well as indirectly controlled lands where local forces may operate if they submit to Yin Sha Sect oversight and pay tribute 201.
- Myriad Ghost City, a mortal city serving the sect and Myriad Ghost Cave, is located near mass graves used by low-level disciples to capture Yin Souls 9.
Recruitment and Internal Structure
Every ten years, on July 14, Yin Sha Sect gathers its Ancestors for exchanges, treasure dealings, and its decennial disciple-allocation ceremony 1.
- The sect seeks children with Spiritual Roots throughout its sphere of influence and, outside its jurisdiction, also employs stealth and abduction 1.
- A billion subjects across several major and smaller nations yield only several hundred viable recruits each decade; one intake numbered 716 children 1.
- New disciples receive a sect-marked waist pendant that verifies identity, spiritual-sense ownership, and access to restricted areas 4.
- Disciples earn contribution points through sect missions, then exchange them for spells, pills, and Magic Items 4 6.
- Foundation Establishment cultivators are recognized as true core disciples and sect elites 118.
- The Battle Hall serves as the sect’s combat arm; its members are described as Yin Sha Sect’s most skilled fighting elites 210.
Cultivation Traditions
Profound Yin Heart Sutra
The Profound Yin Heart Sutra is the sect’s principal Yin-aligned cultivation method and is regarded as an exceptionally pure Yin-attribute great Dao method 4 144.
- Its introductory chapter guides practitioners to absorb spiritual energy, convert it into internal energy, and circulate it through their meridians 4.
- It strengthens the body and prepares a cultivator for the transition from Qi Refining to Foundation Establishment 4.
- Its Yin nature allows its True Qi to remain active and compatible in Yin Qi-rich environments 10.
Great Yin Sha Technique
The Great Yin Sha Technique—also rendered as the Yin Sha Great Law—is one of the sect’s most feared and fundamental great techniques 47 275.
- It can generate large-scale Yin Sha energy, allowing a skilled Golden Core cultivator to transform an area of dozens of li into a Yin Sha battlefield 47.
- Its cultivation is exceptionally dangerous, difficult, and demanding of both talent and resources 47.
- Practitioners with the rare Yin Sha Body can absorb Yin Sha with unusual compatibility and unleash much greater power 275 331.
- Ding Wanyan and Yin Sha Devil Venerable are notable practitioners with Yin Sha Bodies 331.
Ghost Taming Arts
Ghost taming is a signature discipline among Qi Refining disciples, alongside direct offensive and defensive Yin Sha spells 14.
- The Ghost Taming Art uses Soul Nurturing Pagodas to capture Yin Souls and refine them into Ghost Servants 8.
- Ghost Fire Swords are signature Flying Swords tempered with Netherflame, which attacks and burns the target’s soul rather than merely the body 1.
- The Evil Ghost Banner is a notorious sect Magic Item refined from cultivators’ Living Souls; it also serves as a recognizable symbol of Yin Sha Sect status 37 94.
- The Myriad Ghost Banner can release vast numbers of Fierce Ghosts in battle 137.
Yin Sha Evasion Technique
This evasion technique becomes significantly stronger in areas saturated with Yin Sha energy 47.
- It uses surrounding Sha Qi to conceal movement and make the user’s position erratic and ghost-like 47.
- At high mastery in dense Yin Sha environments, it can approach invisibility 47.
- Its effectiveness falls sharply in locations without sufficient Yin Sha energy 47.
