Background / History

Obito was first encountered as a lost, crying child in the Uchiha territory. Yayoi and Yan helped return him to his grandmother, whose safety later became the reason he gave for wanting to become Hokage. 142 247

As an Academy student, Obito constantly boasted about his Uchiha heritage despite not having awakened the Sharingan. He developed a loud, competitive rivalry with Kakashi, while Rin repeatedly mediated their arguments and treated Obito's injuries after his losses. 265

Obito became one of Yayoi's disciples alongside Kakashi and Rin. He chose Yan as his instructor because she was an Uchiha, but struggled badly with basic Fire Release and was considered to have mediocre ninjutsu talent and poor motivation. Yan used a staged illusion of Rin's death to provoke his emotions, unexpectedly awakening his two-tomoe Sharingan. 268 271 272
