Background

Li Yan began as a cultivator under True Lord Xuan Wang, who promoted him to a Labor Disciple, assigned him to manage the Stone Workshop Eatery, and gave him the Dharma name Ming Yan. Xuan Wang also placed a Tracking Restriction on him, but Li Yan’s power transformed it into Reverse Tracking instead. 5

He cultivated in an era dominated by dangerous Blood Arts, shadow creatures, corpse cultivators, and hidden schemes. Early on, he survived by concealing his strength, exploiting the side effects attached to cultivation methods and artifacts, and refusing to trust benefactors or allies blindly. 38 40
