History

Innate Daoist, Qi Tongtian, founded the sect during the Great Yu era. He hired the Heavenly Strategy Sect to identify an auspicious site, got lost on the way, and named the sect after asking a farmer for directions. His reputation and the conditions he offered attracted cultivators and new disciples 42 737 767.

Guiyuan Heavenly Venerate later brought the sect into the ranks of the Five Great Immortal Sects. After a subsequent decline threatened that standing, Hanhai Dao Lord restored its strength; the three are honored as the sect’s Three Ancestors 11 492. The sect marked its 120,000th anniversary with a celebration and the Dao Seeking Assembly, a continent-wide competition held on its grounds 473 489.

Grounds and Organization

• Territory — A map places the sect across roughly 100,000 li. Its core consists of nine peaks arranged like a lotus: one for the Sect Master and eight for the elders 8 161.
• Heavenly Gate Peak — Contains Innate Hall, where the Three Ancestors’ memorial tablets are enshrined, and the sect treasury 11 407.
• Scripture Repository — Holds cultivation methods and divine abilities. New disciples may study there, and Elder Tao manages its collection 6 564 1366.
• Task Hall — Posts missions, handles reports and offers items in exchange for contribution points 15 39 738.
• Training and leisure — The central area contains shops, restaurants, training grounds and Puppet arenas. The Martial Arts Plaza has formations that protect spectators and repair damage from bouts 161.
• Prison Peak — Holds powerful captives, including Wu Youdao, the Sixth Emperor Yu 741.

Recruitment and Cultivation

• Applicants must be mortals under sixteen. Spiritual roots matter, though the sect does not demand only the best roots; its entrance examination also tests character 1.
• Dai Bufan examines applicants’ bone structure during recruitment. Successful entrants receive cave dwellings and can spend a month exploring the sect before seeking an elder willing to accept them as a disciple 2 6.
• The sect does not subdivide Qi Refining into smaller levels, treating the realm as a threshold for its disciples 14.
• Disciples can obtain cultivation methods and resources through the Scripture Repository and Task Hall. The sect also maintains a Medicine Garden to supply herbs for pill refining 15 31 538.

Leadership and Members

• Silent Daoist — Sect Master; his eight fellow disciples forced him to accept the post after he initially refused it 110 480.
• Yun Zhi — Senior Disciple Sister who presides over recruitment and handles sect affairs in Silent Daoist’s absence 1 2 407.
• Dai Bufan — Handles recruitment examinations and Task Hall reports 2 738.
• Lu Yang and Meng Jingzhou — Disciples who later organize an admission test; Lu Yang also serves for a time as acting Sect Master 565 746.
• River Spirit — Guardian spirit of the sect’s stream, whose Spiritual Intelligence was awakened with Innate Daoist’s help 498 743.

Major Events

• The ancestors’ return — Lu Yang and Meng Jingzhou bring the long-absent Innate Daoist back to the sect. They later return with Guiyuan Heavenly Venerate, allowing all Three Ancestors to gather again 738 1122 1163.
• Great Yu Alliance attack — Myriad Laws Dao Lord and allied cultivators attack the sect. Hanhai Dao Lord confronts him while the elders and other sect cultivators mobilize in its defense 753.
• Great Yu conflict — Silent Daoist helps expose and disrupt Great Yu’s operation in Dingsin City, prompting its Imperial Advisor to regard the sect as an obstacle 480 483.
