Dual Affinities X Post-mortem Nen

Inside the glass of water.

The water that had been still began to boil, like water brought to a rolling boil.

Bubbles rose with a gurgle, and steam drifted into the air.

The green leaf that had been floating on top somehow melted in the boiling water, completely dissolving into the liquid. The clear water turned faintly green.

But the changes did not end there. Tiny traces of pale black drifted within the faintly green liquid.

Then the changes stopped.

Yungu stood nearby, watching the scene with a deeply surprised expression. He understood the Nen ability system.

He had never heard of such a change and could not help looking toward Biscuit.

Biscuit unceremoniously dipped a finger into the water, sniffed it, then put it into her mouth.

"It tastes like Grass Leaves. Sweet, but slightly bitter. The leaf really did dissolve into the water. This doesn't belong to any of the five types mentioned above."

Kevin already understood. It was the Specialization Type.

It still was not the Materialization Type he had expected.

Thinking carefully about his Nen ability, he used materials he possessed and understood their Traits to refine potions.

The medicines he produced were like items in a game, capable of granting him buff-like enhancements.

Indeed, it did not quite resemble the manifestations of the five types described earlier.

Biscuit spoke.

"Your Nen possesses both Enhancement Type and Specialization Type—two completely opposite types. And what your Aura has displayed perfectly matches your current situation."

"What do you mean?" Kevin asked, confused.

"This involves the characteristics of the six major types that I hadn't finished explaining."

As she spoke, a pointer appeared in her hand again, and she tapped the blackboard.

"Although a Nen ability has an affinity, that doesn't mean it cannot display the characteristics of other types. It's just that the results won't be as good as with the type you specialize in. According to this hexagon, say you're purely Enhancement Type. Your Enhancement Type can achieve 100% effectiveness. The adjacent Emission Type and Transmutation Type below it can only achieve 80%. The Materialization Type and Manipulation Type further down can only achieve 60%. In contrast, the farthest type can only achieve the lowest level, 40%."

Based on Biscuit's experience, Kevin's Enhancement Type traits leaned toward the Transmutation Type side. Meanwhile, his Specialization Type traits leaned slightly toward the Materialization Type.

Starting from the top and going clockwise:

Enhancement Type—Transmutation Type—Materialization Type—Specialization Type—Manipulation Type—Emission Type—Enhancement Type.

It formed a complete loop, connected by straight lines into a regular hexagon.

Kevin quickly noticed something strange.

"Then in that case, the Specialization Type..."

"That's right. Either you have the Specialization Type or you don't. It can't be cultivated. That's why Specialization Type Nen users are so rare. Every one of them is bizarre and unusual."

"Then wouldn't the two types next to it naturally have one less 80% than the other types?"

Hearing the lesson, Kevin nodded humbly. He understood that much.

He should not aim too high. A person's energy was limited. Only specialization allowed one to go farther; knowing a little of everything meant knowing nothing well.

But Biscuit added, "We belong to Shingen-ryu, and we use the [Mountain] training method."

"The [Mountain] training method?"

"That's right. Focus on your primary type, with the two adjacent secondary types supporting it, and train upward simultaneously. You should focus on the Enhancement Type, supplemented by Transmutation Type and Emission Type. As for the other two, wait until you reach a bottleneck before training them."

Biscuit had already seen through it. The Specialization Type was not Kevin's essence; the Enhancement Type was.

Kevin nodded.

Looking at the optimistic Kevin, Biscuit's expression had already calmed. Her earlier shock at seeing Kevin's Nen ability had not merely been because he possessed both the Specialization Type and Enhancement Type.

Possessing two completely opposite Nen abilities was extremely rare, but not unheard of.

"Yes, Master," Kevin said helplessly.

"Hehe." Biscuit smiled smugly. This kid knew what he was doing.

They soon left and headed straight for the airport. Everything had already been arranged. Before Biscuit and the others arrived, an Airship had already been booked, including a ticket for Kevin.

Along the way, Biscuit explained the plan.

"Your situation is very unusual. Your knowledge, experience, and combat skills are all like those of an ordinary person, but your use of Aura has already reached professional standards. You even have your own Nen ability.

"Combined with your amnesia, your training must begin with rehabilitation."

Kevin nodded. Jin had said the same thing before. To be honest, he was looking forward to it.
