The four of them waited there.
Kevin narrowed his eyes slightly and quietly watched the calm sea.
Before long, as if sensing something, he looked into the distance.
There, they could see ripples sliding across the water, with two sprays racing toward them.
The ripples drew closer.
The splashes broke apart.
Two figures leaped from the sea and landed on the pebble-strewn beach.
The group looked at the two creatures before them.
They looked entirely like inhuman monsters.
Their bodies were hunched, with snake-like limbs below them. But upon closer inspection, those limbs resembled the hind legs of some kind of fish more than snakes.
Their smooth skin was covered in bodily fluid that looked slightly sticky beneath the sunlight, and their tips had fin-like structures resembling fish tails.
Their hunched upper bodies were likewise covered in smooth skin, marked by strange spots and the same viscous fluid.
They had long mouths and flat heads, somewhat like fish heads, yet also resembling crocodiles.
A dorsal fin stretched from their backs all the way to the tips of their tails. They had no arms; instead, fan-shaped fins spread from their sides, with four tentacles protruding beneath them, two on each side.
The two tentacles on the left side held a weapon resembling a harpoon.
They could use tools.
They were clearly intelligent lifeforms.
When the two creatures saw Kevin, a trace of panic flashed through their slightly protruding eyes.
Their lower limbs gave way, and their entire upper bodies lowered toward the ground.
Though he could not understand the meaning of the gesture, its bearing made it clear that it was some form of etiquette expressing respect.
"Honored Lord, forgive our rash visit."
