Background / History

Bai Ye is a man transported from the modern world into settings where multiple fictional timelines overlap. After twelve years in his new world, he joins the Myriad Worlds Chat Group and encounters alternate versions of himself from worlds such as ninja, pirate, yokai, supernatural, and slice-of-life settings 1.

The group allows its members to exchange power, knowledge, and rewards earned by altering major events. Bai Ye repeatedly uses this advantage to intervene in events that would otherwise end in tragedy, while treating each successful change as an opportunity to gain further lottery rewards 1 111.

In the Hong Kong supernatural world, Bai Ye becomes Zhong Fabai's disciple and inherits the responsibility of exorcising demons and upholding the Dao. His exceptional talent lets him learn Zhong Fabai's teachings rapidly, leaving his master with little left to teach him 97. He later establishes a Ghost Catching Company, recruits allies from the police and Daoist community, and ultimately becomes director of a Supernatural Affairs Bureau after gathering the Nine Cauldrons and suppressing chaotic evil spirits 102 106 779.

Appearance

Bai Ye is described as a handsome Eastern man with distinctive eyes and a refined, gentlemanly bearing 123 144.

  • His eyes may display Mangekyō patterns when he uses ocular techniques 81.
  • His Sword Saint training leaves him surrounded by a difficult-to-conceal sword aura and sword intent 215 216.
  • His bloodline strengthening makes him appear noticeably colder while using ice power 113.
  • In Soul Society, his usual gentle demeanor makes him widely popular despite rumors that he lacks combat ability 168.

Personality

Bai Ye is calculating, pragmatic, and highly conscious of long-term advantages. He prefers turning enemies into future assets over simply killing them, as shown when he spares Donglan and negotiates the Leopard Cat Tribe's submission to use them in a future Monster Alliance 111 112.

He is also willing to use manipulation when he considers it useful. He psychologically pressures Nadjeshda over Night Raid's future, exploits Sadako's devotion, and deliberately leads Yamato to question Kaido's ideals 162 181 224.

Despite this ruthlessness, Bai Ye consistently protects people he considers valuable or deserving of help. He frees trapped ghosts from forced reincarnation cycles, saves Zhong Fabai from a Ghost King, shelters the Ohara scholars, and takes responsibility for vulnerable companions such as Ren Tingting and Seria 99 103 143 188 216.

Bai Ye is cautious about exposing his true strength. He knowingly feigns weakness before Aizen, stages serious injuries after using Bankai, and avoids relying too heavily on abilities when his stamina cannot support them 118 168.

Abilities & Skills

Myriad Worlds Sharing

Bai Ye can access powers and knowledge obtained by his alternate selves through the Myriad Worlds Chat Group.

  • Shared lifespan prevents natural death from aging, but members remain vulnerable to being killed 1.
  • Abilities may be limited by incompatible world energies or insufficient stamina 1 118.
  • Altering major world events can grant lottery opportunities for new powers and items 1.

Ocular and Spatial Techniques

Bai Ye possesses several powerful eye-based and space-time abilities.

  • Uses Mangekyō-based genjutsu to influence Kirigakure shinobi 81.
  • Can create clones in combat, including twenty-five clones against Saint Saturn's force and eight against Seimei 90 252.

Lightning and Fire Arts

Lightning and fire are Bai Ye's most consistent supernatural weapons.

  • The Rumble-Rumble Fruit grants lightning manipulation and Elementalization, making physical attacks ineffective while he can sustain the form 2 118.
  • Heavenly Thunder is particularly lethal to ghosts and Evil Path cultivators 99 106.
  • The Fire Spirit Body improves his affinity for fire and allows immediate flame generation 102.
  • Samadhi True Fire can destroy opponents at the soul level rather than merely burning their physical bodies 274.
  • Fire and lightning remain ineffective safeguards against certain soul-targeting techniques, which Bai Ye recognizes as a serious weakness 104.

Haki and Physical Combat

Bai Ye combines extraordinary physical strength with advanced Haki.

  • His Conqueror's Haki overwhelms entire battlefields and manifests as black-purple lightning 111.
  • He exchanges advanced Armament Haki with Whitebeard and withstands clashes of multiple Conqueror's Haki users 172 176.
  • The Eight Inner Gates let him deliver punches powerful enough to create sonic booms, even without using his other abilities 122.
  • He defeats Kaido after a battle lasting several days, establishing himself as captain of their crew 180.

Bloodline and Ninja Arts

Bai Ye has access to multiple bloodline-based powers.

  • His strengthened Dog Demon bloodline improves his body and grants ice manipulation 113.
  • He uses Complete Susanoo on a scale capable of forcing the Shinobi Alliance into surrender 135.
  • With a Sage Body, he can fully employ copied Wood Release techniques, including Deep Forest Emergence, Wood Dragon Technique, and True Several Thousand Hands 127.
  • He possesses Orochi's Blood, which improves his physical attributes without driving him berserk 198.

Daoist Arts

As Zhong Fabai's disciple and a Shenxiao Sect cultivator, Bai Ye specializes in exorcism and supernatural investigation.

  • Yin-Yang Eyes allow him to see ghosts and detect their yin energy 99 102.
  • Uses talismans to protect living people from possession 101.
  • Can read memories from a target's mind, though restrictions may destroy the target's soul before he gains complete information 154.
  • His Daoist reputation becomes strong enough that he encourages disciples to invoke his name for protection while traveling 281.

Swordsmanship

Bai Ye's swordsmanship develops into his defining combat discipline in Arad.

  • Masters Ghostblade techniques through combat familiarity rather than formal instruction 212.
  • Trains against figures such as Sordros, Liang Yue, GSD, Gigue, and Luxy within a fifteen-year training space 215.
  • Reaches peak Ghost Swordsmanship and awakens as a Sword Soul 216.
  • Earns recognition as a Sword Saint across the Arad Continent after resolving the Screaming Cave crisis 215 219.
