Background / History

Life-Slaying Bodhisattva first manifested from a statue amid the storm over Dahe City. In his earliest appearance, he devoured people and spirits, defeated several High Gods, and proclaimed that he would help all beings transcend suffering 90.

Huang Huai later summoned him back to aid Dahe City after Holy Lord Emperor Guan was weakened in battle. By then, he had taken the White Jade Boy as an attendant and had already spent a period “transcending” demons to replenish himself 122. During the destruction of Thousand Peaks Mountain, he publicly declared himself the thirty-fourth manifestation of Guanyin Venerable, the Life-Slaying Guanyin 124.

Although Huang Huai had impulsively created him, Guanyin Bodhisattva ultimately accepted him as her thirty-fourth avatar rather than rejecting him 298. He subsequently answered Guanyin's summons, merged with her true body, and continued to operate as an independent manifestation 299.

Life-Slaying Bodhisattva speaks with the gentleness and compassion of a Buddhist savior. He routinely offers enemies the chance to “convert,” framing their deaths as salvation from karma and the Sea of Suffering 123 140.

This compassion is inseparable from extreme ruthlessness. Those who refuse conversion are killed, reduced to pearls or source beads, and consumed as nourishment for his cultivation 120 123 156. His calm demeanor is particularly frightening to demons because he treats their destruction as a natural act of mercy.

He is also resourceful and self-reliant. He infiltrated Gourd Mountain under a demon disguise, escaped the Great Black Sky Demon Lord by invoking Tathagata's name, and left Huang Huai's protection to seek demons to save on his own terms 157 181 343.

War with the Green Robe Lady

The Green Robe Lady sent nearly ten thousand demons to kill him and reclaim the White Jade Boy. Life-Slaying Bodhisattva fought her avatar, escaped her Demon Refining Great Array, destroyed her blood curse, killed Green Niang, and absorbed most of the invading horde into the Mutton-Fat Jade Bottle 139 140 141.

Self-Reliant Journey

After weakening himself through repeated battles, he chose to leave Huang Huai and seek out more demons in the Mountain God Country. He restored himself by targeting increasingly large groups of demons, later infiltrating Empress Snake's Crimson Heart Pill Gathering in disguise 156 157 180 181.

Emperor Rank Conflicts

With the Vajrasana and Buddha Golden Body Statue, he became a decisive force against Emperor Rank enemies. He converted the Mountain God Lord, confronted the Nine Ridge Emperor, and later helped destroy the Great Yan Emperor 195 197 220 222.

Recognition by Guanyin

Guanyin Bodhisattva's return forced Huang Huai to explain Life-Slaying Bodhisattva's origin. Rather than condemn him, Guanyin accepted him as Killing Life Guanyin, her thirty-fourth avatar 298.
