Background / History

Huang Huai's father had the original statue commissioned and enshrined at Xunzhen Temple because Huang Huai was born weak and was believed to attract evil spirits. Huang Huai offered incense to it daily from childhood, eventually treating the ritual as a habit even after growing older. 11

After Huang Huai carried the statue into the Otherworld, it began responding to the local system of Incense and Fire Prayer Power. Holy Lord Emperor Guan first manifested in divine form to shield Huang Huai from the Scarlet Body Ghost Face Yaksha God and annihilated the demon with his divine might. 27 28

He later explained that Huang Huai's years of prayer had attached spiritual essence to the statue, allowing it to gather a True Spirit after arriving in the Otherworld. Although this connection created intertwined karma and fortune between them, he maintained that he was an independent being. 57

Huang Huai continuously supplied him with incense-rich statues from the mortal world. Holy Lord Emperor Guan refined these statues into his main statue, restored his strength, and returned pure Incense and Fire Prayer Power to strengthen Huang Huai's Primordial Spirit and mental power. 82

After entering Huang Huai's First Divine Court, he helped explain the true requirements of Incense and Fire deification: a deity's complete True Spirit requires a cultivator's mental energy, while its Divine Body depends on blood and qi offerings. 104
