Background / History
Tang San becomes Yu Xiaogang’s disciple despite learning that his teacher is only a level 29 Soul Master. During the Martial Soul Hall’s pressure over Nuoding City, he is completely immobilized by a Title Douluo’s aura and experiences a humiliating incident involving Yu Xiaogang. The event leaves him furious, disgusted, and determined to grow stronger. 4 15 16
He develops an intense rivalry with Xiao Ze, suspecting that Xiao Ze’s rapid advancement hides a secret. Tang San challenges him at Nuoding Academy but is defeated after his Blue Silver Grass fails to control Xiao Ze’s summoned Agricultural Sprites. 24 25
After facing Taino of the Strength Clan, Tang San is forced to reveal the Clear Sky Hammer for the first time. Taino recognizes the hammer as the inherited Martial Soul of the Clear Sky Sect, confirms Tang Hao as Tang San’s father, and reveals Tang San’s Twin Martial Souls. The Strength Clan subsequently pledges allegiance to Tang San, inspiring him to establish a Tang Sect and seek out the other former Clear Sky Sect affiliated clans. 116 117
Tang San learns that cultivating Twin Martial Souls is exceptionally dangerous: one recorded cultivator died from bodily explosion, while Bibi Dong is identified as the sole successful predecessor. Because Bibi Dong is both Pope of the Martial Soul Hall and his enemy, Tang San sees the cultivation method he needs as being in the hands of an adversary. 118 246

Personality
Tang San is proud, determined, and highly sensitive to humiliation. Even while helpless beneath a Title Douluo’s pressure, he refuses to accept submission and tries unsuccessfully to force himself back to his feet. 15
He is protective of Xiao Wu, giving her all of his savings when she needs money for Stealth Breath Pills and secretly following her to ensure her safety. He later steals Yu Xiaogang’s hidden Martial Soul Hall funds, motivated in part by securing resources for Xiao Wu. 180 181
His rivalry with Xiao Ze grows into consuming hatred. Following years in the City of Slaughter, repeated killing leaves Tang San neurotic and dangerous; he later kills 137 people in Yellow Stone Village, dismissing them as sacrifices for the Asura God’s trial. 336 400
