Ruler of the Extreme North

Snow Empress is a spirit born with a human appearance, rather than a conventional Soul Beast that later transformed. For hundreds of thousands of years, she rules the Extreme North and commands the submission and admiration of its accomplished ice-element Soul Beasts. Ordinary Soul Beasts do not move her heart, and she violently rejects the Titan Snow Demon King's courtship 5 8 17.

Despite her contempt for invading human Soul Masters, she avoids initiating war. She regards beast tides as harmful to her own people and tolerates individual hunters while they also risk being killed by Soul Beasts. Large-scale hunting or invasion, however, would provoke retaliation 2 8.

Adoption of Zi Yao

An unusual energy fluctuation draws Snow Empress to the entrance of her cave, where she discovers the infant Zi Yao. His aura reminds her of a spiritual being of heaven and earth. Although she normally dislikes humans, she refuses to blame an innocent child for humanity's actions and decides to keep him 2.

The God of Destruction subsequently appears through divine consciousness and offers protection from one Heavenly Tribulation if she and Ice Empress obey and raise Zi Yao. They accept, but Snow Empress's attachment soon extends beyond the bargain: she dotes on him, arranges for Ice Empress to find nursing Soul Beasts, and is reluctant even to let Ice Empress hold him 3.

Journey and Seclusion

Snow Empress leaves the Extreme North with Zi Yao and Ice Empress to obtain his first Soul Ring, appointing the Titan Snow Demon King to oversee the region. She personally pressures the Blue Silver Emperor to hear Zi Yao's proposal 5.

Their journey leads to Earth Dragon Gate, where Zi Yao negotiates access to the Cold Spring. Beneath it, they discover the Ten Thousand Year Profound Ice Cave—a treasure Snow Empress had unsuccessfully sought for countless years. She and Ice Empress enter seclusion there 8 9 10.

Before withdrawing, Snow Empress places a fragment of her soul inside an Extreme Ice Divine Crystal. After years of nurturing, this split soul can accompany Zi Yao, advise him, and intervene in emergencies while her main body continues cultivating 31.

Tournament and Later Activities

During the tournament battle against Ma Xiaotao, Zi Yao uses Life Ice to form a temporary body for Snow Empress's remnant soul. She defeats Ma Xiaotao with a weakened version of her Imperial Sword, shelters the exhausted Zi Yao, and returns to the crystal as her energy body dissolves 110.

She later helps Zi Yao confront Xuan Zi. Her Emperor Sword severely injures him and costs him his right arm bone, which contains a Hundred Thousand Year Soul Bone. Following Zi Yao's instructions, she demands a wisp of his soul in exchange for sparing his life and invokes the Holy Spirit name as part of his arrangement 121.
