History

Rise of the Yao Race

Di Jun and his younger brother Tai Yi refused to remain in secluded cultivation on the Sun Star. Seeking to emulate the Fierce Beast Dynasty, they traveled the Primordial World to recruit subordinates, gather the fortune of living beings, and contend for dominion. Di Jun also resented Dong Wang Gong, whose appointment as Chief of Male Immortals placed him above a figure whose origin was similarly close to pure yang. 52

Armed with the River Diagram and Luo Book, Di Jun contested the qi fortune of the Lord of Stars against Dong Wang Gong and Ziwei Star Lord. His conflict with them repeatedly spilled into the East Sea, where the Golden Crow brothers' solar flames inflicted severe collateral damage before the Dragon Race intervened. 29 42

At Purple Heaven Palace, Di Jun and Tai Yi requested permission to establish a Heavenly Court. Hongjun gave tacit approval, provoking Dong Wang Gong and Ziwei Star Lord. 66 The brothers later established the Yao Race Heavenly Court through a Heavenly Sacrifice Ceremony, receiving immense merit; Di Jun claimed the court's authority over the Primordial World under the name of Heaven. 79

Consolidating Heavenly Rule

Di Jun married the Moon Star fairies Xi He and Chang Xi through the Heavenly Marriage established by Nuwa. The union linked the Sun and Moon Stars, stabilized stellar order, and strengthened the Heavenly Court's fortune. 120 121

To extend Yao authority over time itself, he enfeoffed his Ten Golden Crow sons as the Ten Heavenly Stem Star Lords and the Twelve Jade Rabbits as the Twelve Earthly Branch Yuan Jun. These appointments were intended to place the Primordial World's temporal order beneath Yao Race control. 171

Decline of the Heavenly Court

Following humiliation by Yuanshi, Di Jun shifted from expansion to defense. He worked with Tai Yi and Kunpeng to refine the Zhou Tian Xing Dou Great Array and Hunyuan River Luo Great Formation, hoping their paired offense and defense would preserve the Heavenly Court against its stronger enemies. 360 361

His efforts revealed the limits of his authority over the stars. A forced divination into the Moon Star's instability failed completely, with the backlash causing him to vomit Origin Essence Blood. 361 Later, Doumu Yuanjun effortlessly shattered the Heavenly Court's stellar net when Di Jun attempted to seize Solar Term Tokens; he could only endure the loss rather than risk war with the Mother of Stars. 369

Nine of Di Jun's Ten Golden Crow sons were slain by Da Yi at Yu Valley. Blinded by grief, he and Tai Yi moved to retaliate, but Bai Ze persuaded him to withdraw rather than begin an unwinnable war against the Witch Ancestor Tribe and Pangu Orthodox Lineage. 399

After Laozi and Yuanshi besieged the Heavenly Court over the near massacre of humanity, Di Jun activated both great formations but could not withstand the Saints indefinitely. He eventually yielded to their demands, accepting a humiliating Heavenly Dao contract to preserve the Yao Race's remaining foundation. 402 403 405

Tai Yi's self-destruction at Mount Sumeru shattered Di Jun's resolve and destabilized the Sun and Moon Stars. With the Heavenly Court collapsing around him, Di Jun attempted to detonate his own body and the Sun Star's origin, but Jie Yin and Zhun Ti prevented his Primordial Spirit from joining the explosion. Da Yi then struck him with an arrow empowered by his life force, ending Di Jun's life and settling Kuafu's karmic debt. 417 418

He is patient enough to let rival factions exhaust one another before intervening, as seen in his plan to seize Hongmeng Purple Qi only after others fought over it. 220 268

As an emperor, he is pragmatic in his use of people. He knowingly retains ambitious subordinates such as Kunpeng and Mosquito Daoist, provided their strength serves the Heavenly Court; their True Spirits ensure their obedience. 232 360 He can exercise restraint when circumstances demand it, accepting Hongjun's ceasefire decree and later withdrawing from Da Yi on Bai Ze's advice. 82 399
