Background and History
Creation and early survival
Nuwa creates the first three thousand humans from Nine Heavens Breath Soil and Three Lights Divine Water. She gives them intelligence and Innate souls through her Dao of Creation and the Qiankun Creation Cauldron, then names them “Human.” Their birth draws down residual fortune from the Divine Demon Dao Era and brings Nuwa the merit with which she attains sainthood 80.
Nuwa decrees protection for the race for one kalpa 81. Humans multiply rapidly, but their cultivation inheritance remains fragmented. Many tribes lack reliable food, medicine, and defenses against savage beasts 84 85. Lu Yuan teaches agriculture, livestock taming, and basic medicine; grateful communities honor him as the Human Race Immortal Master 85 86.
Grand Pure Daoist later preaches the Golden Core Great Dao among humans and establishes the Human Sect, gaining sainthood through its founding 86 87. During the Witch-Demon conflict, both clans systematically slaughter humans to harvest souls for weapons. Survivors gather in scattered sanctuaries, including Lu Yuan’s Qingxu Mountain Dao Field, where he teaches the Rune Immortal Dao 121 123 124.
Rise of the Human Emperors
After the Witch-Demon Calamity, Dao Ancestor Hongjun confirms that humanity will become the next protagonist of Heaven and Earth 139. Fuxi unites the tribes as Co-Lord; the Heavenly Dao Pillar that follows his attainment shelters human territory and makes outside interference with its affairs dangerous 153. Shennong leads the race through a devastating plague, distributes the Human Dao Heavenly Heart Pill, and compiles the Shennong Herbal Classic 156 157 159. Under his rule, trade and inter-clan marriage also produce new human branches that retain humanity as their source 158.
Xuanyuan defeats Chi You and is confirmed as Human Emperor 176. During his reign, Cangjie creates writing accessible to ordinary humans, allowing knowledge to be preserved beyond oral tradition and immortal cultivation 182. Later rulers continue shaping human society; Great Yu’s Nine Provinces and Nine Cauldrons consolidate its territory and destiny 205.
Later dynasties
The establishment of the Great Xia Dynasty changes the rules of cultivation: advancing cultivators must develop Dao lineages, making human territory a prized—and karmically dangerous—place to spread teachings 208. Dynastic struggles subsequently draw the attention of Saints and other powers. After the Investiture of the Gods conflict, the human world faces the task of defending its destiny without direct protection from the departed Saints 294. Later collapses of mortal Dao lineages renew the contest to influence human rulers and claim Human Dao Destiny 350.
Distinguishing Traits
- Innate Dao Bodies — The first humans are created in this form and receive Innate souls through the Qiankun Creation Cauldron 80.
- Rapid population growth — Humanity reaches billions within a kalpa, even while its cultivators remain few 84.
- Ingenuity — Humans build homes, cultivate crops, develop medicine, and eventually create writing usable by ordinary people 84 121 182.
- Human Dao Destiny — Their collective fortune supports the Human Emperors and can bring backlash upon outsiders who interfere without recognition 153 169.
Cultivation Paths
Golden Core Great Dao
- Grand Pure Daoist devises this path around the human body, drawing in the essence of Heaven and Earth to establish a foundation for immortality 86.
- Its teaching gives humans a more coherent route to cultivation than their earlier, fragmented inheritance 85 86.
Rune Immortal Dao
- Lu Yuan teaches humans to observe natural principles, use divine sense to resonate with Dao traces, and condense vital energy into runes 124.
- The path does not require Innate Spiritual Roots or rare treasures; a young human first demonstrates it by condensing a weak “Sun” rune 124.
Associated Items and Institutions
- Human Creation Whip — Formed when the gourd vine used in humanity’s creation absorbs merit; it chooses the first-born human as its master 80 81.
- Human Sect — Founded by Grand Pure Daoist to teach humanity; its fortune is protected by the Taiji Diagram 86.
- Heavenly Dao Pillar — Appears following Fuxi’s attainment and shelters the Human Race’s status and territory 153.
