Background / History

Mu En was one of the Black and White Twin Dragon Saints alongside Dragon Emperor Douluo Long Xiaoyao. A century before the present story, he led Shrek Academy against a Beast Tide, severely wounded a Body Douluo of the Body Sect, and became renowned as one of the continent’s strongest soul masters. 5

His past cultivation was exceptional: he reached Soul Grand Master at eight and level 69 at eighteen. He independently created King’s Descent, Dragon Emperor Evil Splitting Slash, and Dragon Emperor’s Domain Shatter. 216

At some point, Mu En absorbed a Dragon Pill containing malevolent energy. The energy continuously damaged his body and spirit, leaving him severely injured and initially resigned to enduring only for Shrek Academy’s sake. 30 31 Spirit Gold, Lin Yi’s Extreme Life and Extreme Light, the Golden Ancient Tree’s resonance, and later immortal herbs ultimately restored his injuries, extended his lifespan, and returned him to a youthful appearance. 31 189 190

Mu En was initially depicted as an aged, frail man with a wrinkled face and withered hands, the outward result of his long-term injuries. After recovering, he regained a tall, handsome, youthful appearance. 7 31 190

Personality

Mu En is a protective, perceptive mentor who values potential, independent judgment, and the future of Shrek Academy. He respects Lin Yi’s secrets rather than prying into them, but firmly warns him against dangers he believes the child does not yet understand. 7 30

Though deeply invested in Shrek, Mu En recognizes the academy’s institutional problems. Lin Yi’s criticism of Shrek’s dismissal of Soul Tools forces him to confront its internal decay, and Mu En later backs Lin Yi’s choice to enter the Soul Tool Department. 7 22

He is capable of decisive discipline. When elders disrespect Lin Yi’s autonomy and potential, Mu En strips Xuan Zi of authority, confines Yan Shaozhe and Xian Lin’er for reflection, and restructures academy leadership. 24
