Background / History

Shrek is a ten-thousand-year-old academy with a continent-wide reputation as the foremost Soul Master academy. Its legacy includes the First Generation Shrek’s Seven Devils, who became gods and established a standard later generations struggled to match 135. It has claimed tournament championships for nearly a thousand years and is publicly regarded as an “undefeated legend” 130.

Despite being nominally an academy, Shrek possesses regional autonomy, extensive wealth, elite military strength, affiliated forces, and enforcement rights in other countries. The Star Luo Empire therefore characterizes it as the Douluo Continent’s “fourth nation” 137. Its graduates form a vast network that can answer Shrek Inspection Team distress signals across the continent 123.

Shrek’s authority rests heavily on its high-level combatants. A Limit Douluo’s presence is considered sufficient to preserve its position as the continent’s leading academy; its revealed strength later includes multiple Limit Douluo, Super Douluo, Titled Douluo, and Soul Douluo 95 203 273. The Body Sect’s attempted return, though bold enough to attack Shrek directly, ends when its level-98 leader is repelled by a Shrek Limit Douluo 164.

After Lin Yi becomes Pavilion Master, he renames Sea God Pavilion the Golden Pavilion, removes the First Generation Seven Devils’ statues, and reframes Shrek as “just an academy.” He also seeks to prioritize character development alongside cultivation 228 229. Under his leadership, Shrek maintains formal neutrality in conflicts among the empires while retaining the right to act against Evil Soul Masters 242 254.

Shrek later serves as arbiter in the four empires’ conflict, using its overwhelming strength to enforce the agreed order. The resulting settlement leads to the unification of the four empires under Lin Yi and the Golden Pavilion 264 266 269 275.

The Golden Pavilion, formerly Sea God Pavilion, is Shrek’s highest authority. Its Pavilion Master holds the final authority to interpret Shrek’s “glory” and make institutional decisions 95.
