Background

Li Qingshan was an orphan with no name when he entered Shangqing Palace. Li Jiusheng named him Li Qingshan, wishing for him to be as steadfast and enduring as a green mountain. He joined the sect late, when their old Daoist master's health was already failing. 3

He displayed extraordinary cultivation talent: after reaching Grandmaster in only three years, Shangqing Palace stopped publicizing his progress and protected him as the sect's hidden prodigy. 3

Li Qingshan became Yu Chaoyang's master. Because Yu Chaoyang had been raised in part by Li Jiusheng, the senior and junior brothers jointly influenced his upbringing. 3

Appearance

Li Qingshan maintains the appearance of a young man despite his cultivation history, standing beside the elderly-looking Li Jiusheng like a grandson beside his grandfather. His presence is repeatedly likened to a sharp sword. 6

  • Often wears a black Daoist robe. 3
  • After reaching the Ancestor Realm, wears a purple Daoist robe, lotus crown, and carries a whisk. 45
  • His sword aura is sharp enough that falling snow naturally parts around him. 6
  • His post-breakthrough aura becomes restrained and ethereal, with his former outward sword intent returned to simplicity. 45

Personality

Li Qingshan dislikes distractions and values quiet cultivation, initially regarding the Sect Master position as an obstacle to his advancement. Nevertheless, he accepts the role when Shangqing Palace is threatened, placing the sect's survival above his personal preferences. 3 4

He habitually bears worries alone. When troubled, he becomes exceptionally calm and difficult to read—a trait Li Jiusheng recognizes from their childhood. 11 He is fiercely protective of Shangqing Palace, reacting strongly to humiliation directed at its disciples or legacy. 30 31

As a leader, Li Qingshan can be cautious and pragmatic. Rather than immediately claiming the Grandmaster Pure Land near Shangqing Palace, he forbade disciples from entering rashly and informed other major powers, preventing the sect from becoming the first target of its dangers. 29

Abilities & Skills

Sword Cultivation

Li Qingshan follows the difficult path of a Sword Cultivator. Unlike the orthodox Primordial Spirit-focused path, he must carve out his own route with limited guidance from predecessors. 72

  • His body and aura are described as being like an unsheathed sword. 6
  • He is capable of flying as sword light. 10 11
  • As an Ancestor, he is recognized as a Sword Cultivator with exceptional combat power, though his newly established foundation leaves him disadvantaged against long-established Ancestors. 71 91

Grass and Wood Sword Technique

Li Jiusheng imparted the lost Grass and Wood Sword Technique to Li Qingshan, who comprehended it during a month of seclusion. 4 5

  • Creates a Sword Domain amid wind and snow, turning snowflakes into countless sword blossoms. 7
  • Carries the intent of mountains, rivers, wind, snow, and vegetation within a sword strike. 7
  • Killed Zhang Wudao with a single sword, overcoming the latter's Indestructible Golden Body. 7 8
  • The technique substantially advanced his cultivation and established his reputation across the cultivation world. 8 11

Heaven-Slaying Sword Drawing Technique

Li Jiusheng passed the Heaven-Slaying Sword Drawing Technique and the Thousand-Year Sword God of the Old Land's Sword Dao to Li Qingshan to support his pursuit of the Ancestor Realm. 18

  • Used the technique to crush Dao Taichu's projected phenomena and sever his forcibly restored Pure Yang Primordial Spirit. 71
  • His execution of the technique is described as more imposing and comprehensive than Li Jiusheng's, overwhelming the target rather than merely striking on the surface. 71

Sect Leadership and Strategy

  • Took the Sect Master position after Zhang Wudao murdered the previous Sect Master and demanded Shangqing Palace's Blessed Land. 3 4
  • Ordered disciples not to recklessly investigate the Grandmaster Pure Land and announced its discovery to outside powers. 29
  • Rejected the Wang Family's demand that Shangqing Palace disciples serve as expendable scouts for the ruin. 30 31
  • Ordered Shangqing Palace to seal its mountain while he entered seclusion for his breakthrough. 40
  • Investigated Emperor Wu of Zhou's movements and accepted Li Jiusheng's order to destroy the latter's possessed Primordial Spirit. 31

Equipment / Items

  • Whisk — Carried after his Ancestor Realm breakthrough. 45
  • Three Grandmaster cultivation methods — Delivered the Human World's peace offering to Li Jiusheng: Great Dream Spring and Autumn, Sword Intent Four Symbols Art, and an unnamed chaotic cultivation method. 45 46

Relationships

  • Li Jiusheng — Senior brother and lifelong family figure. Li Jiusheng named him, passed on major sword techniques without reservation, and repeatedly advises him on both cultivation and sect affairs. 3 4 17 18
  • Yu Chaoyang — Disciple. Li Qingshan disciplines him harshly when needed, including confining him at Reflection Cliff after his reckless conduct. 3 71 72
  • Zhang Wudao — Enemy. Zhang threatened to seize Shangqing Palace and enslave those who remained; Li Qingshan killed him with one sword. 4 7 8
  • Emperor Wu of Zhou — Major adversary and the master of Zhang Wudao. Li Qingshan anticipates his retaliation and seeks to eliminate his Primordial Spirit before he can recover. 11 12 31
  • Dao Taichu — Enemy from the Heavenly Dao Sect. Li Qingshan intervened on Li Jiusheng's behalf and severed Dao Taichu's Pure Yang Primordial Spirit. 71
  • Jin Jiuling and the Jin Family — Allies in the proposed effort to forge a path into the Outer Domain. 73
