"Is he still alive?"
The Myriad Demon Sword hadn't expected Chen Changan's first question to be about whether Old Beggar was alive.
"You've only known him for a short while. Why are you so concerned about whether he lives or dies?"
"Because he's my friend."
"Since he's my friend, of course I care whether he's alive."
A friend!
"Ha ha ha ha ha!"
"What a fine friend."
"What is a friend?"
"A friend is someone you can betray."
Hearing the Myriad Demon Sword's almost feral laughter, Chen Changan realized it seemed to have a deep aversion to those two words, and that they stirred powerful emotions in it.
"Were you betrayed by a friend?"
"You had friends, too?" Chen Changan asked curiously.
"I once thought of him as my best friend. But in the end?"
"I ended up like this."
"A friend?"
"What is a friend?"
"The most unreliable relationship in this world is friendship!"
"Who was he?"
"That's none of your business!"
Old Beggar had said that the Heaven Burying Sword and the Myriad Demon Sword were one righteous and one wicked, beings locked in opposition. Could the two of them have been both enemies and friends?
No!
It wasn't the Heaven Burying Sword!
If it were the Heaven Burying Sword, the two of them would have been enemies to begin with. Whatever their ultimate fate, it wouldn't have provoked such a strong reaction from the Myriad Demon Sword. It would have been expected.
Whoever had betrayed it, then, must have been someone it would never have believed capable of doing such a thing.
"Look at you. We were having a nice chat. Why get so worked up?"
"What, you gonna bite me?"
"I just asked how he was doing. Why are you getting your knickers in a twist?"
