"Gu Ying deserved to die. Is this explanation satisfactory?"
The faintly amused voice reached Wei Tong's ears, and his expression instantly changed. He hurriedly turned toward the direction it had come from.
A young man stood atop the wall surrounding Lin Family Manor, a calm, composed smile on his face. He seemed not to take Wei Tong seriously at all.
Lin Zhentian turned to look at Lin Dong, who was standing on the wall. His expression immediately grew anxious, but Lin Dong smiled gently at him, signaling that the old man need not worry.
Though he was somewhat confused, Lin Zhentian still chose to trust the young man before him, who had surprised him time and again—his most prideful grandson.
Even so, this time Lin Zhentian couldn't imagine how Lin Dong could overcome the absolute disparity in cultivation between the Heavenly Yuan Realm and Lesser Perfection of the Yuan Dan Realm.
Still, if things truly came to a crisis, he was at least a Lesser Yuan Dan Realm expert. If he fought to the death, he could hold off one Lesser Perfection of the Yuan Dan Realm expert and one Lesser Yuan Dan Realm expert for two breaths.
At that thought, Lin Zhentian gave Lin Xiao, Lin Ken, Lin Mang, and the others a meaningful look.
Wei Tong narrowed his eyes slightly, a cold glint flickering deep within them. After sizing up Lin Dong carefully, he finally spoke.
"You're the brat who killed Gu Ying, aren't you? A young hero indeed. Too bad that if you're too fond of playing the hero, you can easily end up dead."
"Whether I play the hero or not is none of Sect Master Wei Tong's concern. What you should be worrying about is how you're going to collect Gu Ying's corpse—and, while you're at it, compensate my Lin Family for its losses."
But Lin Dong merely scoffed at Wei Tong's threat and replied coldly.
As he spoke, Lin Dong hurriedly called out to Cang Wu in his mind.
"Senior Cang Wu, is this enough? What if I provoke Wei Tong?"
"How can you have so little insight, you brat? Look at his build. He's clearly as thickheaded as that fool Primordial. He'll lose his bearings as soon as he gets riled up. That'll increase your odds of winning by another twenty percent."
Cang Wu rolled his eyes. He was starting to wonder if Lin Dong really was just as reckless as he had been in the original story, with no other tricks up his sleeve.
Little Marten, standing nearby, couldn't help twitching the corner of his mouth. He almost wished he hadn't had ears.
If he had guessed right, that fool Primordial had to be the renowned Lord of Primordial. But in this lord's eyes, he was a simpleton, someone who sounded especially easy to deal with.
"When we fight, remember: first, look for an opening and seize the initiative. Then press the attack. I'll tell you where his defenses are weakest with each move. You just focus on striking to kill."
Cang Wu's words gave Lin Dong a little more confidence. After all, this was the renowned Lord of Devourment. Surely he wouldn't lead him astray.
Lin Dong had overlooked one thing, though: Cang Wu was Cang Wu, while he was only Lin Dong.
Wei Tong was first taken aback by Lin Dong's words. Once he realized what the boy had said, he laughed in fury. When had the dignified sect master of the Blood Robe Sect, a Lesser Perfection of the Yuan Dan Realm expert, ever been so openly disdained by a brat who hadn't even grown his first whiskers?
"Fine, fine, fine! Since you put it that way, I'll personally collect Gu Ying's corpse!"
Wei Tong let out a cold shout, then stamped down on his horse's back. The immense force snapped the animal's spine, killing it on the spot. His rage was plain to see.
Wei Tong sprang from the horse's back. Primal Energy gathered in his hand, and he raised his palm to strike straight at Lin Dong atop the wall.
The sudden attack and powerful fluctuations of Primal Energy jolted Lin Zhentian and the others back to their senses.
But Lin Zhentian had been completely stunned by Lin Dong's words just moments ago. By the time he wanted to step in and help, it was already too late.
Though Wei Tong's attack came suddenly, Lin Dong had been prepared.
"Right side—below the ribs and at the neck!"
As soon as Cang Wu called out the warning, Lin Dong leaped into the air. Two streaks of light shot from his sleeve, carrying him upward.
Then two more black shadows flew from his sleeve, speeding toward Wei Tong's right side, one aimed below his ribs and the other at his neck.
Wei Tong had only just launched his palm strike when Lin Dong seemed to see through his intentions and dodge in advance. Wei Tong couldn't help but look startled.
The next moment, he reacted, but the two streaks of black light had already reached him. His expression shifted slightly, and he hurriedly changed his palm strike into a sweeping blow, sending Primal Energy surging from his hand to meet them.
Under the impact of Wei Tong's Primal Energy, the two streaks of black light shot past his side. Lin Dong couldn't help feeling disappointed.
Cang Wu, watching from the shadows, couldn't help shaking his head. If Lin Dong had attacked first and dodged afterward, Wei Tong would have reacted a beat too slowly. Even if the attack couldn't have seriously injured him, it would at least have hit him.
Don't underestimate a small wound. They add up, and when they finally take their toll, the result can be frightening.
And unlike a serious injury, a minor wound is easy to overlook. It can even be more likely to enrage someone and throw them off balance.
By the time the injuries accumulated and their strength had been nearly exhausted, most people realized what was happening far too late.
That was how Cang Wu had earned the Demon Race's title of "Demon Bane." His opponents would often start out thinking they could win, then somehow die as the fight went on—still convinced, even at the end, that they could win.
"Attack his left rear, then his upper right!"
As Lin Dong lamented the missed opportunity, Cang Wu's voice sounded again. Lin Dong hurriedly focused, and two more streaks of black light flew out. One shot toward Wei Tong's left rear; the other dropped straight down from above his right side.
But in the brief moment Lin Dong had needed to refocus, Wei Tong had already caught his breath. He turned and struck one streak of black light with his palm, knocking it away, then flashed aside to evade the one descending from above.
By then, everyone outside Lin Family Manor had come back to their senses.
Seeing that Lin Dong was using a talisman master's agility to keep Wei Tong occupied for the moment, Lin Zhentian felt relieved. At the same time, another thought crossed his mind.
If they could seriously injure Wei Tong, perhaps...
As for killing him, Lin Zhentian didn't dare entertain the thought. After all, Wei Tong was a Lesser Perfection of the Yuan Dan Realm expert, and his full strength was terrifying.
The Blood Robe Sect Enshrined Elder had also come to his senses. His gaze immediately fell on Lin Zhentian. When he noticed what the old man was thinking, he let out a strange laugh.
"Heh heh, old man, thinking of helping your grandson? You'll have to get past me first!"
As he spoke, the gaunt old man leaped forward and blocked Lin Zhentian's path. The two were locked in combat the next moment.
Meanwhile, the members of the Lin Family and the Blood Robe Sect faced off against one another.
