Background / History

Cang Wu was Ancestor Fu’s second disciple and one of the Eight Ancient Lords. Though the Lord of Life and Death joined first, Cang Wu’s talent allowed him to surpass the other disciples in cultivation; Ancestor Fu consequently entrusted him with teaching many of his junior brothers, sisters, and even the nominal eldest senior sister. He taught or guided the first controllers of most Ancestral Talismans and was the first controller of the Ancestral Stone. 7 18

He selected the Devouring Ancestral Talisman, the first and most mysterious of the Eight Great Ancestral Talismans. Alongside the Devouring Dao, he developed substantial mastery of the other talisman paths, particularly Space; only the Ice Ancestral Talisman lay outside his direct mastery. 5 7

During the ancient war, Cang Wu repeatedly fought while the Eight Ancient Lords were still maturing, returning gravely wounded to be treated by the Lord of Life and Death. In the final battle, he held off the Heavenly King Hall, Second King’s Hall, Third King’s Hall, and Great Heavenly Demon King alone so the Ice Master could enter reincarnation. He broke through during that battle, severely wounded all four enemies, and pinned down the Great Heavenly Demon King, but was mortally wounded himself. 5 65

To protect fellow disciples, he burned his Reincarnation and used his remaining strength to escort others into the cycle of rebirth. His survival was sustained by a system before it crashed, leaving him with an incomplete remnant soul; another portion remained with his original body. 5 7 30 233

After awakening through Lin Dong’s Life Spirit Talisman, Cang Wu became Lin Dong’s mentor and repeatedly entered seclusion to restore himself. He ultimately revealed his true name and title to his descendants: “Cang Wu” and “Devourment.” 5 30 232

Appearance

Cang Wu commonly appears as an exceptionally handsome young man in black robes, despite his ancient origin and status. His bearing is calm and refined even while injured, though extended contemplation of Space-Time Power once caused his appearance to rapidly age and then rejuvenate. 123 259 278

  • Usually wears black or dark robes. 123 278 283
  • Possesses an ancient, elusive aura that unsettles modern cultivators. 94 124
  • Was seen with severe wounds and a pale complexion after being cast into a spatial rift. 258 259
  • Lost his left arm after destroying Yuan Chengkong’s Demon Heart. 252

Personality

Cang Wu is relaxed, teasing, and notably lacking in the arrogance expected of an ancient lord. He jokes with Lin Dong and Little Sable, speaks casually with nervous juniors, and considers composure and confidence central to personal charm. 5 17 124

His ease does not diminish his sense of responsibility. He carries regret over the ancient war, the deaths of his disciples, and the people who did not survive to see peace. He repeatedly accepts danger himself rather than allowing younger allies to bear it. 5 94 124 232

When protecting those under his care, Cang Wu becomes ruthless. He executed Yue Shan after restraining him, punished those who bullied Jiang Yinyin, and treats traitors to the Heavenly Profound Continent and evil cultivators as enemies to be killed. 28 70 259
