History

The Three Clans' calamity

Hongjun declares that the Dragon, Phoenix, and Kirin clans are destined for tribulation. Their war culminates in a decisive battle, while the Primordial Phoenix's sacrifice marks the approaching end of the calamity 2 5 10.

Witch–Demon war and the loss of Buzhou Mountain

The Witch and Demon Clans wage war using the Great Heavenly God-Demon Array and the Great Formation of the Stars. During the conflict, Houtu establishes reincarnation and the Netherworld to receive the dead 25 39. In the final battle, Gonggong and Zhu Rong strike Buzhou Mountain. Its collapse damages the earth veins, opens a breach through which Chaos Qi pours, and leaves the world afflicted by eruptions and floods 54 57.

Saints and the Human Clan

Nuwa creates the Human Clan, and six Saints emerge in a short span, establishing the Human, Explanation, and Interception Religions and Buddhism 41 42. During the Five Emperors era, Zhuanxu's Severing Heaven and Earth cuts off much divine interference in Human Clan affairs. Yu later forges the Nine Cauldrons to suppress the Nine Provinces' water veins; the Human Clan subsequently rises to prominence 68 70.

Heavenly Court and later calamities

Hongjun reestablishes the Heavenly Court under Haotian and Yaochi. After the Investiture of the Gods, it maintains a superficial order while the Western Teachings expand and the Human Clan enters the Western Zhou era 72 90. A later Journey to the West Calamity takes shape amid the Heavenly Court's and Buddhism's competing plans 95.
