| Name | Primordial World |

| Status | Existing; formally enters the era of the Heavenly Emperor by the conclusion 193 |
| First Appearance | Chapter 1 |
Background
The Primordial World was opened by Great God Pangu and is described as fundamentally masterless, despite multiple factions inheriting portions of Pangu’s Legacy. Such inheritance grants fortune but does not guarantee attainment of the Hunyuan Dao; the Witch Clan, for example, possesses Pangu’s Legacy without producing a Hunyuan cultivator 2 17.
At the beginning of the story, the Six Sages exert overwhelming influence over the world, while Dao Ancestor Hongjun—having merged with the Dao—supports Haotian’s appointment as Heavenly Emperor to balance them. Hongjun considers unchecked Sage conflict a threat to order: accumulated Karma causes recurring tribulations, while an early Immeasurable Calamity would shatter the Primordial World’s Heavenly Dao 3 9.
Cosmology and Regions
| Location / Structure | Description |
|---|---|
| Three Realms | The Heavenly Emperor nominally governs the Heavenly Realm, the Earthly Immortal Realm, and the Underworld 12. |
| Underworld | A realm distinct from the Primordial World’s otherwise masterless lands; Houtu transformed into it and became Empress Pingxin 17. |
| Northern Region | Formerly afflicted by the Black Tortoise’s Grievance and Fiendish Energy, which threatened to spread through the world 5 6. |
| Western Region | A region with severely damaged Earth Veins; its condition could drag down the wider Primordial World without intervention 114. |
| Heaven and Earth Membrane | The world’s boundary, where formations can intercept Chaos Qi and convert it into Innate Spiritual Qi before directing it inward 111. |
| Chaos | The exterior realm beyond the world. Sages are later confined there, while it also provides the Chaos Qi used by Haotian’s formations 111 154. |
Order, Karma, and Merit
- Karma — The entanglement of Karma is a central burden on the world. Unresolved karmic debt increases the frequency of tribulations and hastens the Immeasurable Calamity 9.
- Merit — Acts that repair the world, improve its environment, or maintain its order earn Merit. Haotian’s northern formations brought golden Merit to their creators after benefiting the region 8.
- Heavenly Rules — Haotian promulgates laws applying to all cultivators in the Primordial World, establishing the Heavenly Court’s authority over conduct and order 41.
- Heavenly Court exemption — Haotian argues that Heavenly Court gods, who sustain the world’s operations and possess Merit for doing so, should not be included in tribulations imposed on ordinary cultivators 181.
Major Changes
| Period | Development | Consequence |
|---|---|---|
| Early Heavenly Emperor era | Haotian establishes a covenant forbidding indiscriminate slaughter, disruption of cause and effect, and damage to the world’s order. Cultivators with excessive Karma are subject to Heavenly Court punishment 4. | The Heavenly Court begins asserting regulatory authority. |
| Northern Region restoration | Haotian’s group converts the Black Tortoise’s Grievance and Fiendish Energy, restores Innate Spiritual Qi, and creates the conditions for thousands of new blessed lands 6 8. | The Northern Region becomes more habitable and the Demon Race gains room to recover. |
| Enfeoffment of gods | Haotian fills the Heavenly Court’s ranks, appoints gods across multiple departments, and promulgates the Heavenly Rules 41. | The Heavenly Court becomes an active governing institution rather than an empty title. |
| Heaven and Earth Membrane formations | Using formations based on an East Sea island’s array, Haotian and Hongjun establish systems that decompose Chaos Qi into Innate Spiritual Qi 110 111. | The world receives a new source of spiritual energy. |
| Worldwide spiritual-energy increase | Expanded formations at the Heaven and Earth Membrane raise the Primordial World’s spiritual-qi density by twenty percent 113 114. | Cultivation is less constrained by the world’s natural spiritual-qi output. |
| Restriction of the Sages | Hongjun declares that the Sages may no longer manage the Primordial World and confines them to Chaos unless they can teach and preserve order without causing disruption 153 154. | The Heavenly Court becomes the dominant authority within the world. |
| Creation of the Thirty-Six Heavens | Haotian opens worlds within the Sea-Calming Divine Beads, using Chaos energy, spiritual treasures, and laws to separate heaven and earth 158 159. | Dozens of laws are supplemented toward Quasi-Saint perfection, strengthening the Primordial World’s Heavenly Dao and creating a path toward ascension 159. |
| Final era | Dao Ancestor Hongjun warns that another world is approaching merger with the Primordial World and assigns Haotian responsibility for maintaining order 193. | The world formally enters the Heavenly Emperor’s era 193. |
Governance
Heavenly Court
The Heavenly Court serves as the Primordial World’s principal governing institution under Haotian. Its gods administer natural and celestial functions, enforce the Heavenly Rules, manage Karma, and receive Merit for world-improving duties 41 114.
- Kunpeng serves as Grand Commandant.
- Candle Dragon serves as Chancellor.
- Ying Zhao serves as the Dou Department True God and commands the Stars of the Heavens.
- Bi Fang serves as the Fire Department True God, patrolling good and evil.
- Lei Zu serves as the Thunder Department True God, directing rain, clouds, growth, and punishment of traitors 41.
Earthly Deities
Haotian obtains the authority to enfeoff Earthly Deities from Zhenyuanzi, allowing the Heavenly Court to extend administration across the land 105.
- Earthly Deities are intended to manage mountains, lands, and Earth Veins.
- The Witch Clan is especially suited to the role because it can eliminate turbid Qi and Sha Qi from Earth Veins 114.
- Enfeoffment covers the entire Primordial World except cultivators’ Dao fields.
- The Witch Clan receives two-tenths of the available positions, the Demon Race three-tenths, and the remainder is reserved for other beings 121.
Relationships
- Haotian — Heavenly Emperor and primary administrator; restructures the world through Heavenly Rules, divine enfeoffment, Karma management, and spiritual-energy formations 4 41 114.
- Dao Ancestor Hongjun — Merged with the Heavenly Dao and seeks to prevent the Immeasurable Calamity; supports Haotian as a counterweight to the Sages and as a means to strengthen the world 9 159.

- Heavenly Court — The governing body responsible for maintaining the world’s order and assigning Merit-bearing duties 41 114.
- Empress Pingxin and the Underworld — The Underworld cooperates conditionally with the Heavenly Court in matters involving Lost Souls and major crises 13 14.
