Tsunade is a member and representative of the Senju of the Forest, with the authority to move freely within Konoha Hospital. Her clan's Yang Release chakra is noted as making Senju naturally suited to medical ninjutsu 57.

Before the Second Shinobi World War, she reunites with Orochimaru and Jiraiya at an izakaya. She is concerned with finding a suitable jonin instructor for her younger brother, Nawaki, and rejects Jiraiya as a candidate, believing he would be a bad influence on him 11 25.

Tsunade becomes involved with Uzumaki Kushina's development early. She gives Kushina Chakra Burst training as a birthday gift and later teaches her Monster Strength Fist, while remaining protective of Nawaki and encouraging his ambitions 24 38.
