He habitually tests opponents before revealing his full strength. Beerus criticizes this restraint as dangerous, and Goku repeats the approach against both Vegeta and Frieza. He is also merciful enough to spare Vegeta after defeating him 330 333 353.

Training gradually gives him a steadier, more perceptive demeanor. By the Saiyan invasion, he carries himself like a martial arts grandmaster; later, he deliberately teases Piccolo while recognizing the skill behind his tournament victory. History

Childhood and Earthly Training

Goku was exiled to Earth before Planet Vegeta’s destruction. By Age 739, he had been there for two years. A childhood fall caused him to forget his earlier memories, including his Saiyan origins and biological brother 34 96 328.

He adventures with Bulma, helps fight Pilaf, and later trains with Krillin under Master Roshi. During a Great Ape rampage, Gran meets him, effortlessly restrains his attacks, and cuts off his tail. Beerus subsequently wants to take the unusually talented child to the God of Destruction Realm, but Gran insists that Earth is the better place for his development 97 100 139 446 522.

After finishing second to Tien Shinhan at the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament, Goku defeats King Piccolo. He then begins three years of training under Popo in preparation for Piccolo Jr. and the next tournament. At the 23rd tournament, he reunites with Chi-Chi and becomes engaged to her 172 191.

Saiyan Invasion

When Bulma warns that three powerful fighters will arrive in a year and a half, Gran directs Goku toward North Kai’s instruction and Gravity Chamber training. Goku knowingly leaves Gohan under Piccolo’s care, believing that his son needs a proper martial foundation 259 317.

Goku emerges shortly before the invaders arrive and leads Earth’s fighters to confront them. Raditz identifies himself as Goku’s older brother, while Vegeta seeks the Super Saiyan transformation method because of a prophecy from Goku’s father. Goku does not know the method and refuses to abandon his identity as an Earthling 326 328 329.

After Vegeta kills Piccolo, Goku escalates his Kaioken and defeats him, but spares his life 333.

Namek and Yardrat

On Namek, Goku fights Frieza using Kaioken before Krillin’s death triggers his first Super Saiyan transformation. He kills Frieza, then immediately tests his new strength against Gran. Gran helps him practice controlling the form before knocking him unconscious 356 363.

Goku remains on Namek to stabilize the transformation and has his potential unlocked by the Grand Elder. He later learns Instant Transmission on Yardrat. After rescuing Vegeta’s group from Broly, he challenges Broly himself, suffers a crushing defeat, and retreats to recover with a Senzu Bean 363 366 374.

Android Preparations and Otherworld

Bulma’s knowledge of the Future Timeline reveals that Goku carries a fatal heart disease. He agrees to prioritize treatment, and the Dragon God cures him with Miracle Power before the group investigates an unfamiliar ki 403 404.

Already capable of Super Saiyan 2, Goku trains Gohan and Future Trunks in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Afterward, he seeks advanced instruction from Grand Kai through North Kai. Two years of Otherworld training produce major gains in both raw power and state of mind 421 423 439 491.

Inter-Universal Martial Arts Tournament

Goku enters the God-level Arena representing Universe 7. Against Universe 6’s Candidate God of Destruction Rose, he reveals Super Three and awakens his Ultra Instinct prototype 509 522 523 524 525.

Although exhausted and outmatched in raw power, he exploits Rose’s Kamehameha with Instant Transmission and knocks him out of bounds. His victory earns Universe 7 nine points. Goku then helps Rose up, and Rose promises a rematch 527.

Android Crisis and Whis’s Training

During the Android Crisis, Goku overwhelms Android 17 and Android 18 as a Super Saiyan and pursues Dr. Gero toward his laboratory. When Gran orders him not to prevent Cell from absorbing Android 18, Goku complies and apologizes to Krillin 556 561.

Whis later agrees to guide Goku personally in Universe 7. Goku leaves for the God of Destruction Realm after unsuccessfully asking permission to bring Chi-Chi. Whis eventually sends him into the Dimension Tower for further training; no resulting advancement is documented in the supplied passages 572 582 596.
