Background
Raditz arrived on Earth in a Saiyan space pod and immediately killed a farmer. Using his scouter, he located Piccolo, measured him at 322 Battle Power, and dismissed Piccolo's strongest attack as insignificant before leaving to find Goku. Piccolo considered Raditz's killing intent and strength greater than Broly's had been five years earlier. 75
On Master Roshi's island, Raditz identified Son Goku as his younger brother, Kakarot, and revealed that both Goku and Broly were Saiyans from Planet Vegeta. He described the Saiyan planet-conquest trade, under which warriors exterminate a world's population before selling the planet. 77 78
After Goku and Broly rejected his offer to join Vegeta and Nappa, Raditz kidnapped Gohan and Branchi. His leverage collapsed when Branchi overwhelmed him, transformed, and repeatedly brutalized him. The experience left Raditz deeply frightened of Branchi despite the child's harmless normal demeanor. 80 82 85
Raditz attempted to escape Earth, but later obtained fifty Senzu Beans from Goku by promising not to harm the planet or its inhabitants. He exploited Saiyan recovery boosts through repeated near-death training, raising his Battle Power to 100,000 in four months. 86 96 101
When Vegeta and Nappa arrived, Raditz used his new power to reverse their former hierarchy. He broke Nappa's arm, overwhelmed him with a concentrated energy blast, and easily defeated Vegeta. After Yamcha died during the Saibamen battles, Raditz fled Earth in Vegeta's spaceship, fearing retaliation from Broly and Branchi. 117 118 121
While wandering space, Raditz challenged Cooler's Armored Squadron and was badly defeated; the squad's members each possessed at least 170,000 Battle Power. He later returned to Earth, helped Gohan eliminate members of the Ginyu Force, and chose to live peacefully on Earth rather than continue surviving alone in space. 175 188 190
Appearance
Raditz is a tall, burly Saiyan with an imposing build and a long, black, flame-like mane. He wears a fitted battle suit with simple shoulder armor and carries a furry Saiyan tail. 75
- Pitch-black, sharply spiked hair; later shown wearing it long and loose. 75 117
- Furry tail matching those of Goku and Broly. 75 78
- Canine teeth and a cold, predatory expression. 75
- Usually wears a scouter over his left eye. 75 78
- Favors Saiyan battle suits, including a repaired suit while on Earth. 117
Personality
Raditz initially embodies Saiyan elitism, cruelty, and contempt for perceived weakness. He considers Earthlings beneath notice, treats conquest and genocide as ordinary work, and believes a warrior's potential is fixed by birth. 75 78 89
His confidence is strongly tied to power and status. Once he reaches 100,000 Battle Power, he openly relishes humiliating Vegeta and Nappa for years of mistreatment. He is vindictive, keeps grudges, and takes personal satisfaction in retaliating against those who once hurt him. 101 117 119 190
Raditz is also highly self-preserving. Branchi's strength breaks his earlier arrogance, making him submissive and fearful; he later abandons Earth when he expects Broly or Branchi to punish him for Yamcha's death. 85 121 126 Despite this cowardice, he gradually seeks a new start on Earth, recognizing its fighters, training methods, and family ties as safer than aimless life in space. 190 191
