Overview

Soul Masters are individuals who awaken Martial Souls and cultivate Soul Power. Their Martial Souls may be beast-, body-, weapon-, spirit-, or support-oriented, shaping their combat style and potential. Martial Souls also possess innate hierarchies: superior Martial Souls can exert suppression on weaker related Martial Souls. 1

A Soul Master's strength is determined not only by Soul Power rank, but by four interdependent factors:

Cultivation and Soul Rings

After a Martial Soul awakens, Soul Power stimulates physical development, especially among attack-type Beast Martial Soul Masters. Proper body tempering and medicinal supplementation can raise a Soul Master's Soul Ring absorption tolerance. 5

A Soul Master must learn to mobilize, circulate, stabilize, and externally apply Soul Power before attempting to absorb a Soul Ring. Attempting absorption without sufficient control can be fatal, even if the person's body and innate Soul Power are otherwise adequate. 5

Soul Ring Absorption

Soul Rings contain a portion of a Soul Beast's accumulated Soul Power. Absorption is fundamentally a clash between the Soul Master's Soul Power and the power retained within the ring. 11

• Physical condition determines how much strain the body and meridians can withstand.
• Soul Power quality and intensity determine whether the Soul Master can refine the ring's energy.
• Mental strength becomes increasingly important when absorbing ten-thousand-year Soul Rings, whose remnant souls can interfere with the absorber. 11
• Soul Ring selection prioritizes compatibility and skill quality over recklessly pursuing greater age; a suitable high-quality eight-hundred-year ring may be preferable to an ordinary thousand-year ring with much greater risk. 11

Soul Rings are normally permanent once acquired. Their age, quality, bloodline, and resulting Soul Skill can substantially affect a Soul Master's long-term potential. 149

Martial Soul Types

Beast Martial Souls

Beast Martial Souls commonly enhance the user's body after Martial Soul Possession. The more pronounced the beastification, the stronger the Martial Soul is generally considered to be. 127

• Often specialize in direct physical combat, durability, or elemental attributes.
• Some possess rare beast-transformation talents that partially reproduce the effects of a Martial Soul True Body before the seventh ring. 127
• The Dragon Elephant Sect's Beast Martial Souls emphasize self-enhancement and physical damage rather than direct elemental attacks. 19

Body Martial Souls

Body Martial Souls are formed from a part or aspect of the user's own body. A complete Body Martial Soul is especially suited to human Soul Masters and offers broad enhancement to physique, spirit, Soul Power, and bodily control. 161

• Can grant microscopic control over muscles and blood vessels in the affected body part.
• Form the basis of advanced Battle Skills, which exploit the user's body with precision beyond ordinary Soul Masters. 161
• The seventh-ring ability known as Original Body Life is described as a direct method of strengthening a Body Martial Soul user's origin and potential. 216

Spirit-Attribute Martial Souls

Spirit-attribute Martial Souls are exceptionally rare. They are particularly associated with mental strength and are highly valued in areas such as Soul Tool use. 153 19

Evil Martial Souls

Some Martial Souls possess inherent evil attributes and are naturally suited to the path of an Evil Soul Master. The Myriad Soul Banner is one such Martial Soul, originating from soul-refining practices among Evil Soul Masters. 199

• Evil Soul Masters often cultivate rapidly before reaching the Titled Douluo threshold.
• Their Soul Power and mental will may become impure or difficult to control.
• The bottleneck between Soul Douluo and Titled Douluo is especially difficult; most Evil Soul Masters fail to cross it. 199

Soul Skills

Soul Skills are abilities granted by Soul Rings. Major sects frequently refine fixed Soul Ring paths for their early rings, ensuring descendants receive reliable skills that suit their inherited Martial Souls. 5 113

• The first three Soul Skills of ancient sects and families are often standardized through generations of selection. 113
• From the fourth Soul Ring onward, Soul Masters usually choose rings to establish an individual combat path. 113
• Enhancement skills can improve strength, defense, attack, resistance, or Soul Power efficiency.
• Control, movement, area-of-effect, and long-range skills may compensate for a Martial Soul's inherent shortcomings. 5

Martial Soul True Body

The Martial Soul True Body is the seventh Soul Skill obtained by Soul Sages. It is closely connected to both the Martial Soul's origin and the Soul Master's origin, producing a major increase in combat power and cultivation potential. 216

For most Beast Martial Soul Masters, the Martial Soul True Body transforms the user into, or substantially toward, their Martial Soul. In some unusual cases, however, the transformation may be disadvantageous. 78

Soul Tools

Soul Tools are devices activated and controlled through Soul Power. They are regarded by the Dragon Elephant Sect as tools that strengthen Soul Masters and compensate for weaknesses rather than as a dilution of personal strength. 5

• Soul Tools can provide ranged firepower to close-combat-focused Soul Masters. 5
• Storage Soul Tools allow users to carry equipment and weapons. 5
• Soul Engineers may compensate for weaker close-combat ability through Soul Spirits or specialized Soul Tools. 174
• High-level Soul Tools can threaten or surpass conventional Soul Master combat methods, including Rank 9 Soul Cannon Shells and other advanced weapons. 118 120

Soul Spirits

Soul Spirits are Soul Beast souls preserved and fused with Soul Masters rather than simply killed for conventional Soul Rings. They may reside within Soul Rings and be summoned for combat. 170

• A compatible Soul Spirit can preserve a Soul Beast's bloodline traits and grant associated Soul Skills. 174
• Soul Spirits can assist Soul Engineers by protecting them in close combat. 174
• Conventional Soul Spirit absorption does not inherently increase Soul Power. 170
• Powerful or unruly Soul Spirits impose significant physical and mental requirements on potential hosts. 174

Inverse Soul Spirit

Inverse Soul Spirit is a technique described by Electrolux that compresses a Soul Beast's energy into a more powerful Soul Ring or divides its energy among multiple rings. 170

• Can substantially improve energy utilization and strengthen inherited bloodline effects.
• Allows deliberate adjustment or preservation of a Soul Beast's original abilities.
• May create Soul Spirits that can use otherwise unsuitable skills more effectively than their host. 170
• Provides no corresponding benefit to Soul Beasts and risks accelerating their extinction through greater exploitation. 170
