Background / History
Gu Lin is one of the Gu Family's collateral disciples who entered military service at Mushan City alongside Gu Chen, Gu Han, Gu Fan, Gu Jing, and Gu Ming. As a new recruit in the Warrior Camp, he performed well enough as a third-order Martial Disciple to receive a Blood Tempering Pill reward. 7
When Gu Han began hunting separately from the logistics-soldier teams, Gu Lin searched the mountain forest for him despite the danger posed by demonic beasts and Lei Chao's possible connections. He carried a poison-coated dagger given by Gu Chen for protection. 19
While looking for Gu Han, Gu Lin was ambushed by Wang Huan and four other War Soldiers. They blamed him for the punishment imposed after Lei Chao's actions and intended to kill him in the wilderness, where his death could be blamed on Lei Chao. Gu Han and Little Wolf arrived in time; Gu Han killed the attackers, while Little Wolf cleaned and healed Gu Lin's injuries. 23 24 25
Gu Lin concealed the true cause of his wounds upon returning to camp, claiming that a sword-toothed pig had injured him. He and Gu Han tacitly agreed to keep both the ambush and Li Xuan's likely connection to Gu Han secret. 25 26
Gu Han later gave Gu Lin a box of ten Blood Tempering Pills, enabling him to recover from his injuries and regain ground in training. By the Tenth Battalion Grand Competition, he had nearly secured a place among the Second Camp's top ten warriors. 30 45
Personality
Gu Lin is fiercely protective of his fellow Gu brothers. He searches for Gu Han when the latter disappears into the mountains, and later leads Gu Jing and others out of camp when he believes Gu Chen may have been killed by Lei Chao. 19 36
He is practical and discreet. After Gu Han saves him from Wang Huan's group, he accepts Gu Han's explanation of having a powerful master and promises not to reveal it—even to Gu Chen. He also helps preserve the cover story around their attackers' disappearance. 25
In battle, Gu Lin is ruthless toward opponents he considers malicious. He shows no regret after severing Fang Wen's arm, arguing that Fang Wen had attacked vital points and previously injured several Second Camp warriors. However, he also knows when to withdraw, choosing to rest after defeating Fang Wen and Huang Shaoshan rather than fight a third consecutive match. 47
