Background / History

Yun Xiao resides on Three Immortals Island, a dojo granted to her, Qiong Xiao, and Bi Xiao by Sect Master Tongtian. The island is protected by the Nine Bends Yellow River Formation, whose Sha Qi can annihilate ordinary immortals approaching within ten thousand miles. Before the Calamity intensifies, she worries over her disciple Shen Zhaochi’s prolonged seclusion and foresees a blood-soaked future in which even Saintly lineages may fall. 1

When Zhaochi’s body is found without life force or a Primordial Spirit, Yun Xiao attempts to use the Primordial Golden Dou to reverse time and identify what happened. Tongtian stops her, explaining that Zhaochi was not murdered but underwent self-transformation into the Dao. 2 3

She later warns Zhao Gongming that his victories over the Heavenly Origin Sect have come too easily and may provoke Saint-level retaliation. Zhao Gongming dismisses her concerns, trusting in his Sea Calming Divine Beads and newly acquired treasures. 27

Appearance

Yun Xiao is depicted as a beautiful immortal woman who usually wears a plain, elegant palace gown. Her usual gentle bearing turns cold and severe when her family or sect is threatened. 1 33

  • Plain palace gown associated with her restrained, virtuous image. 1 102
  • Clear, rational eyes and a composed expression in ordinary circumstances. 27
  • Blood tears, frost-covered features, and overwhelming killing intent after Zhao Gongming’s presumed death. 32 33
  • A more imposing, sharp presence after her advancement at Fangzhang Immortal Island. 69 70

Personality

Yun Xiao is the calmest and most analytical of the Sanxiao. She distrusts easy victories, studies the larger consequences of conflict, and can identify the self-serving motives behind Saintly interventions that initially appear benevolent. 27 35 51

Her restraint has limits. Zhao Gongming’s apparent death drives her toward uncompromising vengeance, yet she does not abandon strategy: she investigates the battle site, reconstructs the chain of events around Randeng, and uses the Nine Bends Yellow River Formation rather than launching a reckless assault. 33 36 38

She is fiercely protective of her sisters and disciples. In crises, Bi Xiao and Qiong Xiao repeatedly look to her for direction, and Yun Xiao makes the decisive calls to retreat, enter the Eye of Guixu, and pursue the chance to rewrite their fate. 61 65 67

Abilities & Skills

Heavenly Secrets and Deductive Reasoning

Yun Xiao possesses strong divination and investigative abilities.

  • Foresees a future filled with blood and danger for the Saintly orthodox lineages. 1
  • Detects residual Saintly auras at Zhao Gongming’s battle site, distinguishing Zhunti’s presence from traces linked to Yuanshi. 35
  • Identifies the Treasure Dropping Golden Coin and connects the deaths of Xiao Sheng and Cao Bao to Daoist Randeng’s Heaven-Measuring Ruler. 35 36
  • Analyzes Taishang’s intervention as an attempt to benefit the Human Sect rather than an act of goodwill toward the Sanxiao. 51

Nine Bends Yellow River Formation

Yun Xiao is a principal wielder and commander of the Sanxiao sisters’ greatest formation.

  • Centers the formation on the Primordial Golden Dou. 39

  • Uses an upgraded formation diagram supplied by Mister Shen, which she believes can make the formation more than ten times stronger. 108
  • Commands six hundred Array Base Maintainers to support its deployment. 108

  • Can be used to reverse time and space, though doing so risks Heavenly Dao backlash. 3
  • Strips cultivators of their Three Flowers, Five Qi, Dao Fruit, Primordial Spirit stability, and accumulated magical power. 39 111
  • Serves as Yun Xiao’s protective treasure while entering the Eye of Guixu. 67

Command and Crisis Leadership

Yun Xiao leads through discipline and decisive judgment rather than Bi Xiao’s impulsiveness.

  • Prevents Bi Xiao from attacking Xi Qi’s defenses recklessly and instead establishes a formation to force the Heavenly Origin Sect into a disadvantageous confrontation. 38
  • Keeps the captured Twelve Golden Immortals alive because they remain strategically useful. 44
  • Recognizes that she and her sisters cannot contribute directly to a battle between Saints and orders a retreat when survival becomes impossible otherwise. 61
  • Organizes the sisters’ journey to Chao Ge after receiving instructions from their hidden senior. 70

Story Role / Major Arcs

Zhao Gongming’s Presumed Death and Investigation

After Zhao Gongming’s Natal Jade Talisman turns to dust, Yun Xiao takes his death as confirmed and vows to make the killer’s entire lineage pay. She leads Qiong Xiao and Bi Xiao from Golden Ao Island to investigate the East Sea battle site. 32 33 35

Her analysis of Saintly traces, the Treasure Dropping Golden Coin, and the bodies of Xiao Sheng and Cao Bao leads her to conclude that Daoist Randeng is connected to Zhao Gongming’s downfall. She then directs the sisters to Xi Qi to demand an explanation from the Heavenly Origin Sect. 35 36

Nine Bends Yellow River Formation Conflict

When the Heavenly Origin Sect shelters behind the Central Wuji Apricot Yellow Banner, Yun Xiao abandons direct assault in favor of a formation battle. She threatens to sacrifice the Heavenly Origin Sect disciples’ Three Flowers and Five Qi if they cannot break the Nine Bends Yellow River Formation. 38

The formation strips the Twelve Golden Immortals of their cultivation and leaves them mortal. Yun Xiao keeps the captives alive for strategic reasons, understanding that Venerable Yuanshi’s retaliation is the true danger. 44

Escape from Saintly Conflict

Yun Xiao sees through Taishang’s supposed aid, recognizing that the Saint seeks the outcome most favorable to the Human Sect. When Yuanshi’s power overwhelms the formation, she follows mysterious guidance to disperse the formation and retreat rather than die in a Saintly battle. 51 61 62

After escaping, she refuses to return immediately to Golden Ao Island. Trusting a persistent inner guidance, she leads her sisters toward the Eye of Guixu and the hidden Gate of the Immortal Island. 65 67

Fangzhang Immortal Island and Chao Ge

At Fangzhang Immortal Island, Yun Xiao receives Primordial Violet Qi and the Heaven and Earth Yellow Xuan Creation Pagoda, reaching the early Quasi-Saint realm. 68 69

Following orders from the mysterious senior, she leads her sisters to Chao Ge. There, she bluntly warns Wen Zhong that Great Shang is already doomed and challenges his determination to die defending it. 70

Later Xi Qi Campaign

During a later Three Immortals Island arc, Yun Xiao initially adheres to Tongtian’s order to avoid karma. Mister Shen persuades her to lend Zhao Gongming the Dragon Binding Rope and allow him to go to Xi Qi as part of a larger plan. 102

When Zhao Gongming returns severely injured, Yun Xiao accepts Mister Shen’s upgraded formation diagram and leads the Sanxiao and six hundred Array Base Maintainers to Xi Qi. Her formation defeats the Twelve Golden Immortals and cripples Randeng. 108 111

Yun Xiao’s victory restores Intercepting Sect morale, and Tongtian credits her as essential to preserving the sect’s honor. 116

Ten Thousand Immortals Great Array

During the Western Teachings’ Sanskrit and Zen chants, Yun Xiao recognizes their effort to disrupt the Intercepting Sect disciples’ Dao hearts. She joins the senior disciples in countering the chants through recitation of the Yellow Court Scripture and restrains Bi Xiao from reacting rashly. 128
