Background / History

Yuanshi participated with Venerable Taishang and Sect Master Tongtian in signing the Investiture of the Gods before the Great Tribulation. He expected the Intercepting Sect to supply most of the listed gods, while believing his own disciples could overcome the tribulation through their virtue and cultivation 2.

Shen Zhaochi's True Spirit entering the true Investiture of the Gods immediately disrupted Yuanshi's assumptions. Unable to calculate the anomaly due to chaotic Heavenly Secrets, Yuanshi initially dismissed the event as impossible and later blamed Tongtian when Guangchengzi was forcibly listed 2 16.

His attempts to uncover the force behind Shi Ji's resurrection and the altered calamity brought severe consequences. When he used the Pangu Banner to trace the past, the Investiture of the Gods confounded causality and Heavenly Secrets, causing a Great Dao backlash that injured him and led him to seal Kunlun Mountain 25 26.

Yuanshi is deeply invested in the dignity of both himself and the Heavenly Origin Sect. He regards the sect as the orthodox Mystic Gate lineage and considers many Intercepting Sect disciples—especially those of non-human origin—unworthy of its standing 2 100.

His confidence rests on calculation, hierarchy, and control. Repeated reversals—the listing of his disciples, the collapse of his plans at Xi Qi, and the emergence of Shen Zhaochi's Godhood—gradually turn this confidence into suspicion, humiliation, and rage 25 100 130.

Yuanshi attacks Shen Zhaochi's position with the Pangu Banner, but the formation's Annihilation Shield withstands his chaos sword qi. Shen Zhaochi's faith power then stabilizes the array and unsettles Yuanshi alongside the other Saints 124 130.

His humiliation eventually damages his Saint Heart, leaving silver streaks in his hair and pushing him toward self-destructive rage. Barred from direct action again, he equips the Twelve Golden Immortals with his finest treasures and orders them to fight for the Heavenly Origin Sect's remaining dignity 134 136.
