Background

Mu En found an infant beneath a golden beam in the Star Dou Great Forest, adopted him, and named him Ye Chen after the writing on the child’s swaddling cloth. Di Tian arrived shortly afterward, recognized Mu En’s lingering Light Aura, and departed. 1

As Ye Chen’s adoptive grandfather, Mu En personally guided his Martial Soul Awakening at Sea God Pavilion. He reassured Ye Chen that even a poor awakening would not prevent him from living safely under Mu En’s protection. 2 Ye Chen instead awakened the Emperor Aurora Sword and Innate Full Soul Power, prompting Mu En to recognize his extraordinary potential. 3

Mu En accepted Ye Chen as his Final Disciple and intended to groom him as the future master of Sea God Pavilion. His training plan included daily medicinal baths, personal instruction in the Power of Light and self-created soul skills, Academy-provided Soul Rings, and Soul Tool education under Xian Lin’er and Qian Duoduo. 3 He overruled Yan Shaozhe and Xuan Zi’s objections to Soul Tool training, having personally witnessed the danger and potential of advanced Soul Tools in the Sun Moon Empire. 3

When Ye Chen vanished in the Star Dou Great Forest, Mu En’s concern became fury. He mobilized the Sea God Pavilion Elders, personally joined the search despite his injuries, and confronted Di Tian over access to the forest. 13 His clash with Di Tian ended with Di Tian prevailing, while Mu En’s already-damaged life force was heavily depleted. 17 19

After Ye Chen returned with Spirit Gold, Mu En initially refused to use the treasure, believing it would be more valuable to Ye Chen. He accepted only after Ye Chen argued that a recovered Mu En would better protect him. 19 20 The Spirit Gold completely restored Mu En’s body and returned him to a youthful appearance and peak strength. 20

Mu En continued to protect Ye Chen beyond the Academy. He secretly shadowed Ye Chen’s journey to Heaven Dou City, intervened when a Titled Douluo Evil Soul Master targeted his disciple, and killed the attacker. 48 49 He later personally went to the Xuanming Sect after its members attempted to assassinate Ye Chen in Shrek City. 99 102

The Emperor’s blessing later elevated Mu En’s Light Attribute into Extreme Light and granted him Emperor Fist. 138 139 His discussion of the Dao of Light with Electrolux further deepened his understanding and set him on the path toward quasi-godhood. 201 202 After Ye Chen gave him a God King Seat and empowered its refinement with Emperor’s Light, Mu En ascended as the first deity in ten thousand years. 339 342

Mu En originally appeared as a severely aged and hunched elder due to the injuries and depleted life force he carried for years. 2 19 After absorbing Spirit Gold, he regained the appearance of a refined young man despite being over two hundred years old. 20 99

Mu En is deeply protective of Ye Chen, whom he regards not merely as Shrek’s successor but as the child he personally raised. Ye Chen’s disappearance drives him to risk his remaining life force in the Star Dou Great Forest, and threats against Ye Chen provoke immediate, ruthless action. 13 48 49

As Shrek’s leader, he is decisive and unwilling to compromise on matters he considers necessary for the Academy’s future. He dismisses objections to Ye Chen’s Soul Tool education, believing Shrek must adapt to an era increasingly shaped by Soul Tools. 3 His authority is absolute among the Sea God Pavilion Elders, who follow his decisions without question. 91 99

He is also patient and perceptive as a teacher. Mu En lets Ye Chen choose his own Soul Ring path, explaining that a soul master must ultimately decide his own road. 21 He recognizes when Ye Chen’s talent has surpassed what ordinary instruction can provide and shifts his role toward guarding Ye Chen’s path. 41

After recovering his youth, Mu En becomes noticeably more playful and mischievous, often teasing Ye Chen while maintaining his grandfatherly concern. 20 44 57
