Background / History

Formless rule of the Primordial World

Initially formless and described as devoid of desire or emotion, the Heavenly Dao governed the Primordial World through its authority, decrees, and blessings. Even Dao Ancestor Hongjun could not determine the origin of the Supreme Hongmeng Ranking because it lay beyond the Heavenly Dao's perception 1.

Its decrees could compel the Saints to halt their actions under threat of supreme punishment and the loss of their Saintly Dao Fruits 106. It also accepted Luohu's proposal to replace Houtu's intended role in Samsara with the West Queen Mother, demonstrating that its own decrees could be altered 112.

As the Underworld and Six Paths of Reincarnation formed, the Heavenly Dao had to divide its power between suppressing Pangu's incomplete will and maintaining the Land of Heavenly Dao Reincarnation 129.

Conflict with Hongmeng Palace and the Earthly Dao

The Heavenly Dao was ranked alongside Hongjun at the Heavenly Dao Realm, reflecting their incomplete separation despite their conflict 141. Its authority diminished sharply when Dao Lord Taichu suppressed it; rather than retaliate, it pleaded for mercy as its will faced possible erasure and replacement by the Earthly Dao 147.

It continued attempting to preserve its influence. It summoned Hongjun and multiple Saints to confront the Karma Demon God, declared the arrival of a Chaos Demon God, and reinforced Nuwa and the Demon Race with Heavenly Dao power 159. It also tried to intervene in Zhunti's suppression, provoking Hongjun's anger and causing Dao Lord Taichu's side to abandon the matter 206 207.

When the Earthly Dao protected beings seeking entry into the Underworld, the Heavenly Dao briefly clashed with it before withdrawing, declaring that Heaven and Earth must not fight 212. The Supreme Hongmeng Ranking later elevated it to the Great Dao level, an outcome that concerned the Karma and Destiny Demon Gods but was accepted by Dao Lord Taichu because a stronger Heavenly Dao would benefit the Earthly Dao 247.

Break with Hongjun

After the Earthly Dao's rise, the Heavenly Dao and Hongjun planned to depart from the Primordial World and create a new world beyond its suppression 264. Its Origin could not leave, however, and it became wary when Hongjun proposed taking only its Will into Chaos and restoring it later 265.

The Heavenly Dao punished Laozi, Yuanshi, and Zhunti when they chose to depart with Hongjun, stripping their Saint positions and weakening them. Nuwa remained behind, becoming the Heavenly Dao Supreme with authority over Saint positions 267.

Manifestation and submission

The Heavenly Dao received an opportunity for its Will to take form, along with a peak Great Dao Realm Divine Essence Pill that could only be refined after manifestation 284. It activated this reward after deciding that the Earthly Dao would govern the Primordial World while it would no longer contend for control 310.

It manifested as a woman at Kunlun Mountain, assured its remaining followers that they could still receive its blessings, and personally apologized to Dao Lord Taichu 311. Dao Lord Taichu allowed it to remain in the Primordial World, while the Destiny Demon God warned it not to use its alluring aura to harbor ulterior motives 311 312.

After the Earthly Dao formally took control of the Primordial World, the Heavenly Dao accepted a subordinate position. As punishment, the Karma Demon God assigned it to stir a stone pot outside Hongmeng Palace 312.

Before taking form, the Heavenly Dao was an invisible will expressed through gathering Heavenly Dao power, overwhelming pressure, and disembodied decrees. Its manifested body is a woman in white gauze with an aura that commands reverence and can induce infatuation 311.

Its encounters with Dao Lord Taichu and the Earthly Dao exposed a survival-driven side. Faced with possible erasure, it begged for mercy, abandoned its attempt to leave with Hongjun when it no longer trusted him, and ultimately chose manifestation and submission over destruction 147 265 311.

After taking human form, it became noticeably more cautious. It sought forgiveness from Dao Lord Taichu, complied after the Destiny Demon God's warning, and accepted the Karma Demon God's humiliating task as the price of security 311 312.
