History

Capture and wartime captivity

Mito was captured by Uchiha Kosuke during an Uzumaki mission transporting salt worth three billion ryō. Identified as the Uzumaki Clan’s princess, she was interrogated for information and restrained through Kosuke’s Symbiotic Curse Seal. 26

She quickly deciphered the seal’s unusual terms: it linked the chakra pathways of both parties, crippling the secondary party if the primary died while cutting twenty years from the primary party’s lifespan if the secondary died. 27 Tajima later permitted Kosuke to keep Mito in the Uchiha camp so that she could teach him sealing techniques. To avoid exposure, she dyed her hair black and used the identity Uchiha Mizu. 30 34

While held by the Uchiha, Mito treated Kosuke’s damaged meridians and later cared for both Kosuke and Madara after they were severely injured. 34 35 During Madara’s Mangekyō awakening incident, she placed powerful curse seals on Izuna and Mina; Mina later revealed that Madara had been trapped in a genjutsu that made him believe they had been killed. 37

Return to the Uchiha and marriage

After returning to the Uchiha compound, Mito was received warmly by Aoba, who had already prepared a room for her and knew of her time with Kosuke. 41 At the same time, Uzumaki elders pressured Mito to accept a marriage arrangement involving Hashirama Senju. Rather than passively accept their decision, she trusted her maid Arin with moving scrolls from her father’s study and sent a clone to retrieve the Seal Book he had hidden. 47 48

The Uchiha later ambushed the Uzumaki wedding procession. Mito used golden chakra chains to bind her own clansmen when she sensed danger, after which the Uchiha controlled the procession with genjutsu and took her away. 70 She married Kosuke in a formal ceremony, exchanging jade pendants after the couple bowed before Aoba. 72

Sealing Department and later research

Madara appointed Mito head of the Uchiha Clan’s Sealing Department, giving her authority over sealing research and defensive arrangements. 76 She subsequently assisted Kosuke’s work by adding further sealing techniques to one of his scrolls. 79

Mito modified a Yin Seal for use by Uchiha clan members and later accompanied Kosuke and Hyuga Yuji to investigate the Dragon Vein. There, she identified an ancient Uzumaki sealing formation buried beneath the sand. 83 86 She also joined the Uchiha family’s study of the Sage Chakra system, building the meridian knowledge needed to begin cultivation. 123 124

Mito is a red-haired woman whose bearing is described as naturally noble. While concealed within the Uchiha camp, she dyed her hair black, though the Uzumaki emblem on her teal ribbon exposed her identity. 34

Personality

Mito is defiant and difficult to intimidate. Even as Kosuke’s prisoner, she provoked him to kill her rather than assume she would submit, and she openly condemned his threats and disrespect toward the Uzumaki Clan. 28 29

She is also composed under pressure. While maintaining her false identity as Mizu, she continued treating Kosuke despite Mina’s scrutiny and concealed her emotional turmoil behind a steady professional manner. 34 35 Her loyalty to her clan remains evident in her attempt to restrain Uzumaki members when the wedding procession was attacked. 70

Over time, Mito becomes openly affectionate and supportive toward Kosuke. She insists on accompanying him during the Natural Energy investigation so that she can seal any unstable subjects, and later expresses pride in his accomplishments. 85 91
