Geography and Appearance

Tian Ding Mountain stands in north-central Chenping Continent and rises more than 8,000 zhang; later measurements place it above 8,300 zhang. Its upper slopes are buried beneath snow accumulated over tens or hundreds of thousands of years, making ascent exceptionally difficult even for Martial Spring Realm cultivators. 89 499 553

• Mountain gate — A white-jade pillar tens of zhang high supports a beam over one hundred zhang long, bearing the characters “Tian Ding Mountain” in an immortal-tinged metal. 499

Historical Significance

Before the Five Great Sects existed, Tian Ding Mountain stood as Chenping Continent's only sacred cultivation ground. Of the continent's thirty-one recorded Ascension Realm cultivators, twelve came from Tian Ding Mountain. 76

Its arrival coincided with the emergence of the Ascension Realm on Chenping Continent, where Hedao had previously been the known peak of cultivation. Mister You describes the mountain's appearance not as the cause of Ascension, but as a karmic link produced because the world required that realm. 244

Tian Ding Mountain also unified Chenping Continent's written language and system of measurement, adopting standards inherited from the former Tianji Continent. This gave Chenping Continent a more continuous historical record. 690

Peak Era

Under its final master, Qinghong True Person, Tian Ding Mountain possessed foundations beyond the combined Five Great Sects.

Destruction

Tian Ding Mountain was destroyed overnight roughly sixty thousand years before the main era. Its fall plunged Chenping Continent into chaos; three thousand years later, Lingxiao Temple, Mirage Palace, Xingtian Gate, Fengjian Valley, and the Empty Mountain Sect consolidated the continent and became the Five Great Sects. 76

The true cause was not publicly known for tens of thousands of years. Chen Yan's experiences through the Tian Ding Mirror revealed that a colossal rift opened in the sky, from which a seven-colored, gilded Immortal Maiden Statue emerged. A bronze bell sounded, and the statue's clasped hands annihilated all life on the mountain. 286 287 636

Qinghong True Person recognized the danger immediately. He sealed Tian Ding Palace, used himself as fuel to activate it, and confronted the entity from the rift; the palace was cracked and the sect was still destroyed. 646

Later information identifies the statue as a Mysterious Woman, a weapon beneath Heavenly Monarch Qingluo and possessing power close to the True Purity Realm. 642

Tian Ding Palace

Tian Ding Palace was publicly regarded as the former residence of Tian Ding Mountain's Ascension Realm sect masters. In truth, it is Tian Ding Mountain's second Dao artifact, a secret passed orally only between its twelve sect masters. 623

Tian Ding Mountain originally consisted of six pavilions spread across the mountain rather than concentrated on a single flat summit. 91

Dao Asking Assembly

The Chenping Continent Dao Asking Assembly is held on Tian Ding Mountain once every ten years and is regarded as the continent's grandest cultivation event. The Heavenly Peak Dao Seeking is its most prominent contest, with its champion gaining access to Tian Ding Palace. 76 558

The event also draws cultivators from across Chenping Continent for lectures, auctions, and teachings by elders of the Five Great Sects. 501 558

Tian Ding Mountain Great Tribulation

During one Dao Asking Assembly, Wen Hongli enveloped the entire mountain in a massive True Qi barrier, preventing any person or object from entering or leaving. 100

The resulting Tian Ding Mountain Catastrophe devastated the gathered sects. Of the Empty Mountain Sect's seventy-four cultivators present, only seventeen survived; across the major sects, 22,212 cultivators were dead or missing. 151

The catastrophe left much of Tian Ding Mountain's architectural complex in ruins and created a lasting gap among the younger generation of cultivators. 265

Legacy

After Tian Ding Mountain's original fall, the Five Great Sects divided much of its surviving wealth, including spiritual herbs, immortal medicines, and fragments of the Tian Ding Mirror. Each sect's share reportedly exceeded its original total cultivation resources. 274 457

However, the Tian Ding Mountain Dao Canon and its six immortal artifacts disappeared from the historical record; the Five Great Sects found no trace of them and initially suspected one another of concealing them. 457

The Tian Ding Mirror itself predates Tian Ding Mountain's recorded history. Chen Yan discovered it had existed when Chenping Continent was still Tianji Continent, on Qingxuan Mountain—the predecessor of Tian Ding Mountain. 554 563

Later Era

Following the Chaos of Immortals, Chen Yan renamed the ruined Tian Ding Mountain Du Cang Mountain and established it as Chenping Continent's new cultivation holy land. 677

Its former Profound Scripture Hall became the Wanfa Platform, where tens of thousands of cultivators later gathered for the Du Cang Mountain Dao Discussion. Tian Ding Palace remained suspended above the mountain, cracked beneath an expanding dark rift. 623
