Background

Mister You describes his own early cultivation talent as mediocre. He struggled through the Spirit, Wanhua, Guiyi, Spiritual Power, Hedao, and Ascension realms, eventually surpassing the other Ascended Immortals in his understanding of Karma. 530 581

As Fusheng Immortal Venerable, he was remembered as Chenping Continent’s eighth known Ascension Realm cultivator and its only ancient rogue cultivator to attain Ascension before Su Hongzhen. His subsequent dominance lasted more than thirty thousand years, overshadowing other Ascended Immortals and making even Tian Ding Mountain cautious around him. His original personal name was never firmly established; historical accounts variously suggested the surnames Zhang and Zhan. 455

Seventy thousand years earlier, he made an exchange with Mirage Palace: he obtained Weaving Dream Tower’s illusion arts, while Mirage Palace received powerful cultivation methods. Historical accounts describe Fusheng City as appearing after his mysterious fall on Fusheng Island. Thousands of cultivators sought his inheritance, but only one Spirit Realm cultivator reportedly returned, mentally broken and claiming that the city’s inhabitants were born at the Martial Spring Realm. Qinghong True Person later inspected the island without entering the city and prohibited others from approaching it. 455

His later reincarnated self lacks approximately sixty-two thousand years of his former memories. Their journey from the Great Yi Dynasty’s capital to its desert border takes two months on foot at Mister You’s insistence. Although he performs calculations, he describes the discovery of Yexing’s inheritance as a hunch rather than a successful deduction. 223

Training Si Youyou

After rescuing Si Youyou during a ferry hijacking, Mister You helps seek a Nine Revolutions Vast Heaven Marrow Forging Pill to repair Chen Yan’s meridians. When Chenping Continent approaches destruction, Mister You forcefully ascends, absorbs Yin Xia and Qiu Siruo’s Great Daos, and gives Chen Yan the Dao Foundations of True Person Jingchen and True Person Yexing before sending him through Fusheng City’s gate. Within Fusheng City, a memory-limited version of Mister You learns of the fallen continent and concludes that his prior self’s decision to send Chen Yan there was understandable. 398 401

This version initially does not recognize Chen Yan. After hearing his account and performing a deduction, he understands the continent’s destruction and takes Chen Yan to a stone platform holding ten Dao Foundations. 401

Encounters Eight Thousand Years Earlier

After traveling into the past, Chen Yan encounters another version of Mister You at a gathering connected to Mirage Palace. Mister You recognizes that Chen Yan comes from the future, identifies the future-derived portion of his Karma, and deduces the failed effort to use him to overturn the continent’s history. 454 455

At Moxu Mountain, they exchange information about Chu Fan, Kang Congdan, and Mirage Palace. Mister You states that he is collecting things connected to Fusheng City’s stone platform and subsequently agrees to gather the Tian Ding Mirror fragments to help Chen Yan glimpse the future. 459 460 493 He also watches over Su Hongzhen and Zhou Jinyun while Chen Yan attends to other matters. 464 465 520

Rebellion and Sainthood

After learning that Chenping Continent is effectively a controlled stage, Mister You resolves to rebel against the forces behind it. He gives Chen Yan an Immortal Embryo, destroys the symbolic Tian Ding Mountain token, and ascends to the True Purity Realm. 570 575

Chen Yan immediately refines the embryo into the Falling Star Sword, overturning Mister You’s confident wager that he could not forge an immortal artifact from it. His breakthrough into sainthood fulfills more than sixty thousand years of preparation, but the Immortal Maiden Statue’s emergence immediately forces him into battle. 570 575

The Black Tide and Fusheng Island

Mister You holds back the Immortal Maiden Statue but suffers escalating Space-time Fault damage. He pulls Chen Yan from the Black Tide and brings him to Fusheng Island, where he explains that Bai Chen’s Karma has turned the continent’s inhabitants into chess pieces before dissipating. 576 580 582

He deliberately drives the statue into the Space-time Fault because Chenping Continent’s fragile laws cannot support an unrestricted battle involving a True Purity Realm cultivator. On Fusheng Island, he accepts his approaching death and reiterates that his future self’s trust in Chen Yan is reason enough for his present self to trust him as well. 576 581

The identity of the force he calls “that existence” remains uncertain. After learning about Heavenly Monarch Qingluo’s restrictions on Chenping Continent, Chen Yan suspects that the being Mister You encountered in the Space-time Fault is not Qingluo; Saint Tianji cannot identify the shriveled eyeball associated with the rift. 644

Reincarnated Contingency

A later version of Mister You continues to assist Chen Yan despite having re-cultivated only to the Hedao Realm. He offers to manage Du Cang Mountain, receives Chen Yan’s intelligence about the Endless Sea, and remains among the few people Chen Yan trusts with Saint-level Karma. 602 637 701

Chen Yan asks him to retrieve two portions of Imperial Void Saint’s Karma from the Wuxian Mountain Range and the extreme abyss. Mister You initially warns that even a small mistake could cause unbearable backlash or alert the watcher in the Space-time Fault, but Chen Yan assures him that the Karma has been isolated from the domain world. 701
