Chapter 6: Valyrian
"Start exploration!"
Rhaegar wouldn't miss another exploration quest.
He mentally chanted "start," and a progress panel for the dragonbone dagger appeared.
[Valyrian Steel Dagger]
Exploration Progress: 2.5%
"Yay!"
Rhaegar cheered inwardly, a wide smile on his face.
He refused Rhaenyra's request to see the dragonbone dagger, feigning exhaustion and pitifully claiming he was tired.
"Fine, then you can sleep with the dagger, you stingy boy."
Rhaenyra huffed.
Rhaegar rubbed his dark circles and leaned against his sister's embrace, yawning as he asked his father, "I'll return the dagger to you before we get off the carriage."
"As you wish, just don't have nightmares and wave it around wildly."
Viserys joked, looking at him with relief.
Heaven knew if he hadn't seen his eldest son in a while?
He felt like his son had more energy these past two days than usual, not gasping for breath after a few words.
As a father, Viserys was happy.
The carriage continued to travel.
From dawn until the sun was high in the sky.
"Exploration complete. Please retrieve the lost treasure."
The carriage happened to stop, and the driver calmed the gentle white horses by controlling the reins.
Rhaegar was awakened by the system prompt, feeling a tickle on the tip of his nose.
He opened his eyes and saw Rhaenyra teasing his nose with a strand of silver hair.
"Sister, you're so bored."
Rhaegar pushed himself up, realizing he was lying on the chair without knowing when, his head resting on Rhaenyra's lap.
"We've arrived at the camp. There are ministers waiting outside to greet us."
Rhaenyra's lips curved upwards as she reminded her brother to wake up.
Rhaegar came to his senses and immediately checked the system panel.
[Valyrian Steel Dagger]
Exploration Progress: 100%
His gaze fell upon the dragonbone dagger in his hand; a blue light cluster was stuck to the dragonbone hilt.
Rhaegar subtly glanced at everyone in the carriage, finding that none of them noticed the conspicuous blue light cluster.
"It seems only I can see it."
For some reason, Rhaegar breathed a sigh of relief and secretly rejoiced.
He liked this feeling of being unique.
He touched the blue light cluster, and it dissolved into small light spots like bubbles, drilling into his hand, just like before.
"Father, here's the dagger back."
Viserys was adjusting his clothes with Alicent's help. Rhaegar placed the dagger in his hand.
"Ask your sister to smooth out the wrinkles in your clothes. You can't be disrespectful in front of the ministers."
Viserys casually tied it to his waist, reminding him to mind his appearance.
Rhaenyra pulled him over, not unkindly, and smiled as she tidied his silver hair, which had become messy from sleep.
Taking advantage of the moment, Rhaegar checked the system panel.
"Relic retrieval successful, detecting..."
"Detection successful. Judged as an Excellent-grade relic, The Old Man's Warning."
"Activate this relic?"
"Excellent grade?"
Noticing the different rating on the panel, Rhaegar pondered.
The Dragon's Legacy from the last exploration was judged as Legendary grade.
The relic's halo was red.
This exploration has been judged as Excellent, with the relic's halo appearing blue.
"It seems relics are also graded. Legendary ones awaken the Blood of the Dragon, so they must be quite precious."
Realizing the changes Blood of the Dragon had brought him, Rhaegar silently thanked Balerion.
"Activate relic."
He silently chanted, and a line of small text appeared on the system panel.
"Congratulations, The Old Man's Warning has been activated successfully. You have obtained..."
[Mastery of Valyrian]
Level: Excellent (Blue)
Effect: Mastery of the Valyrian language.
Evaluation: "Learning a language will never hurt you."
The moment he saw the panel, it felt like an electric current surged from his tailbone straight to the crown of his head.
Rhaegar shivered, and knowledge of the Valyrian language filled his mind.
Both High and Common Valyrian.
The language seemed to take root and sprout in his brain, as if he had known it since birth.
"Rhaegar, are you cold?"
Rhaenyra noticed his strangeness and asked if something was wrong.
Rhaegar shook his head repeatedly. "No, I'm fine."
He patted his chest, indicating he was truly alright.
"Cheer up, we've kept the ministers waiting long enough. Show some presence."
Viserys, with Blackfyre at his hip, strode ahead and lifted the curtain, exiting the carriage.
The cheers of the surrounding crowd immediately erupted, greeting their King.
"Let's go, children."
Alicent said softly, following closely behind.
Rhaenyra frowned, displeased by the remark.
They had been close friends who grew up together, sharing everything, just a few years ago.
After her mother died in childbirth, Alicent turned around and married her father.
Now she spoke to her as if she were a child.
It was truly disgusting.
Rhaenyra's face darkened as she pulled Rhaegar out of the carriage with her.
Compared to the cheers the King received, the welcome for Rhaenyra, the heir, was clearly less enthusiastic.
Alicent, however, with her three princes and a princess, smiled and accepted greetings from some noblewomen.
There were even some foolish idiots who shouted, "Long live Prince Aegon!"
This incited a large portion of the crowd to follow suit, cheering for Prince Aegon.
They completely overshadowed Rhaenyra, the rightful heir, and Rhaegar, the King's eldest son.
Rhaenyra forced a smile, pretending to be unbothered as she followed behind Viserys.
Rhaegar's trembling hand revealed a sweet smile under her puzzled gaze.
Though his pale face and dark circles didn't make it particularly cute.
"I'm alright, Rhaegar."
Rhaenyra's voice couldn't hide her dejection.
"I know. Targaryens never admit defeat."
Rhaegar replied softly, turning his face towards where the inappropriate words had first come from.
In less than a second, he found the person still inciting the crowd.
He had golden curly hair and a large nose, and an older noblewoman stood beside him.
He looked like a skilled knight.
"Big-nosed idiot, I'll remember you."
Rhaegar saw his face clearly and secretly committed it to memory.
Not for any other reason.
It was simply because he had a big nose.
He just looked like he deserved a beating!
After a warm welcome, the camp erupted in celebration.
Various drinks, fruits, and pastries were laid out on tables for the nobles participating in the hunt and their families to enjoy.
Viserys entered the main tent, took his seat on the throne, and received greetings from his ministers.
Rhaenyra and Rhaegar also entered.
A group of noblewomen gathered, discussing rumors from the Stepstones.
Apparently, a noblewoman had been abducted by pirates who fed her crabs.
As soon as Rhaenyra approached, she was stopped by a white-haired old woman in ornate clothing, who asked for her opinion.
When someone initiated a conversation, Rhaenyra smiled and went over.
Unexpectedly, the other party had ill intentions.
Within two sentences, they seized upon Daemon's unauthorized war, questioning Rhaenyra's claim to the succession over Daemon.
"Lady Gerrula, Daemon brought this upon himself; the Princess is far more suited to inherit."
Alicent, seated beside the old woman, spoke up to help Rhaenyra.
The current king was Viserys, her husband.
Whether the succession went to Rhaenyra or her child, it was a dispute within the family.
Daemon had long been disqualified from succession.
Alicent would not allow any nonsense about Daemon being deprived of his inheritance to spread.
Lady Gerrula's words caught in her throat, and she turned to attack Daemon's unauthorized war.
"For this unnecessary war, the kingdom has been dragged down by your uncle, sending fleets and soldiers to completely eradicate the Three Daughters."
"This requires the expenditure of countless manpower and resources, and the sacrifice of many soldiers' lives."
