"I'm going to kill you!" Wenren Qingyi was so mortified and furious that her opinion of Mu Zibai sank even lower. How dare he say such things! He was utterly vulgar!
And especially unforgivable was the fact that he'd dared to mock her.
Mu Zibai said helplessly, "You're a young lady. Shouldn't you be learning needlework instead of running around fighting? Can't you be a little more ladylike?"
Mu Zibai took two steps back, and Wenren Qingyi couldn't even touch him.
He watched Wenren Qingyi's punches and kicks. The moves were good, but she had no real strength and had only learned the form. She was clumsy.
To Mu Zibai, they were even slower than molasses, and he could dodge them with ease.
If Wenren Qingyi weren't Wenren Lingmeng's little sister and the Third Young Lady of Wenren Manor, Mu Zibai would have loved to pin her to the ground, pull off his belt, and then
spank her hard.
She was far too unruly. She must never have had a perfect childhood.
"Third Young Lady, son-in-law, what are you doing?" Xiao E had just walked in when she saw the scene. She hurried over and stepped between them.
"Xiao E, you came at just the right time! While you were gone, this guy actually climbed into Sister's bed!" Wenren Qingyi said, pointing at Mu Zibai.
She looked just like a little schoolkid tattling.
Wenren Qingyi wore a smug, gloating expression as she looked at Mu Zibai. She might not be able to catch him, but Xiao E definitely could.
Xiao E was silent for a moment, then said, "The son-in-law and the Young Lady are married. Aren't they supposed to sleep together?"
Wenren Qingyi froze and stared at Xiao E as if she were a stranger. Wasn't Xiao E supposed to be on her side? Why was she sticking up for Mu Zibai?
"I..." Wenren Qingyi was at a loss for words. She was furious, but there was nothing she could do, and she was about to cry from frustration.
Xiao E comforted her. "All right, Third Young Lady. The son-in-law and the Young Lady are married now, so of course they're supposed to sleep together."
Wenren Qingyi looked aggrieved. She hated Mu Zibai with all her heart. She'd counted on Xiao E to help her get even, only to find Xiao E had taken Mu Zibai's side.
Since she'd come back, it was as if the whole world had turned upside down. Her closest sister had gained a husband, and Xiao E, who had always looked after her and taken her side, no longer stood with her.
It was as if Mu Zibai had stolen the two most important people in her life.
"But I've always slept with Sister," Wenren Qingyi said with a pout, her voice full of grievance.
Xiao E stepped forward and said, "You'll get married someday too. Then you'll sleep with your own husband."
Wenren Qingyi puffed out her cheeks, made a face at Mu Zibai, and ran off, saying, "Mother said she was taking Sister for a walk in the back garden."
"Third Young Lady is just like that," Xiao E said helplessly.
"She's a child who never grew up."
Xiao E brought over a basin of hot water, dampened a hand towel, and passed it to Mu Zibai.
Mu Zibai did most of these things now. Xiao E trusted him completely, and that made it easier for Mu Zibai to earn points. His points were growing at a steady pace, too.
Wenren Lingmeng had gone from resisting, to feeling shy, to gradually getting used to it.
He lifted Wenren Lingmeng onto her wheelchair and pushed her outside.
"Aren't you coming?"
He noticed Xiao E didn't seem to be planning to join them.
"I'll stay and tidy up the room. Let them take the son-in-law."
Xiao E looked toward the two maids in the courtyard.
There were only a few maids in Wenren Lingmeng's courtyard now, and they were responsible for the daily cleaning.
Mu Zibai pushed Wenren Lingmeng toward the back garden.
Although winter was nearly here, the flowers in the garden were still in bloom, and the weather was warm.
"An array?" Mu Zibai felt a wave of warmth and looked up at the sky. There must have been an array providing heat.
At a glance, he spotted Wenren Qingyi beside Madam Mu, chattering away nonstop.
The moment she saw Mu Zibai, she shot him a glare and stuck out her tongue, looking defiant.
"Xiaobai's here." Madam Mu smiled warmly.
"Greetings, Mother." Mu Zibai cupped his hands and bowed.
"We're family. There's no need to bow," Madam Mu said with a smile.
She looked at Mu Zibai with great approval.
"Let me push Lingmeng. She used to love coming to the back garden to admire the flowers." Madam Mu stepped forward. Mu Zibai sensibly moved aside, and Wenren Qingyi followed after her.
The scene reminded Mu Zibai of his own mother. Whenever she and her friends went shopping, he'd always get dragged along, honored to trail behind them like a lucky mascot carrying their bags.
It was exactly like this now. At least he didn't have to do any heavy lifting.
Mu Zibai followed behind them, listening to Madam Mu and Wenren Qingyi chat and laugh. He felt like an extra who didn't belong.
Mu Zibai couldn't appreciate flowers. He had only three opinions: ugly, not bad, and beautiful.
He opened the shop.
[Item 1: Magical Girl Cosplay Costume, price: 5,000 points] [Item 2: Divine Light Stick (Do you want to become light?), price: 1,000,000 points] [Item 3: Five Thousand Years of Chinese Poetry Anthology, price: 10,000 points] [Item 4: Beginner Alchemy Experience, price: 50,000 points] [Item 5: Fire Spirit Fruit, price: 3,000 points]
Mu Zibai: "."
Magical Girl Cosplay Costume? A giant question mark appeared over Mu Zibai's head. What the... I'm a perfectly respectable man. Why would this thing show up for me?
And it wanted 5,000 points?
He glanced at the description: "Young man, what are you waiting for? Buy the costume, get a wife! Buy it and it's like getting a new wife. Collect 365 outfits and change to a different one every day of the year! You'll have 365 wives."
Mu Zibai: "=-="
He fell into a deep silence. What had he ever done to deserve this? He'd lived an upright life, and this was what it showed him?
Still, if Wenren Lingmeng wore this Magical Girl Cosplay Costume, wouldn't that be...
By night, she'd transform into a magical girl and punish you in the name of the moon?
Mu Zibai thought of a fellow otaku from high school. He'd been determined to marry a wife who could not only cosplay but also play along, changing her look every day and never repeating an outfit for ten years.
But honestly, cosplay outfits were expensive.
Perhaps that was why this one cost 5,000 points?
Unfortunately, Mu Zibai had no such hobby. He considered himself an upstanding person. He never watched anime, much less liked anything related to otaku culture.
[Points -5,000]
Divine Light Stick? Was this thing supposed to summon Ultraman Tiga? One million points? That was ridiculously expensive!
He couldn't afford it, so he skipped it.
The Five Thousand Years of Chinese Poetry Anthology contained the cultural heritage of all five thousand years of Chinese civilization. With this book, Mu Zibai could confidently become a plagiarizing literary genius.
With that cultural heritage, wouldn't Mu Zibai be able to become a Confucian sage? The five-thousand-year cultural legacy of our magnificent China was no empty boast!
[Points -10,000]
Beginner Alchemy Experience. Alchemists were ridiculously wealthy. It would be nice to become one.
But Mu Zibai had little use for it right now. Better to play it safe for now, so he didn't buy it.
