Background / History
Deep sleep and marriage
Six months before the story, Lingmeng fainted after a family outing to Moon Gazing Tower, where they had been admiring the moon. Though outwardly judged to be in a vegetative state with Soul Loss Syndrome, she retained full consciousness and sensation while being unable to control her body or speak. Numerous physicians, including Imperial Physicians, failed to treat her. 1 3
Her engagement to the Mu family was fulfilled through a “bring good luck” marriage arrangement. Because the engagement only specified a son of Mu Hedao, Mu Zibai—an overlooked illegitimate son—was sent to marry into Wenren Manor in place of his brother. 1
Lingmeng initially despaired over being unable to care for herself and feared the loss of her dignity. Her father, Mu Xue, and Xiao E continued seeking treatment and caring for her, giving her a reason to keep living. Her birth mother had died of illness many years earlier, while Mu Xue, Wenren Lanzhang's second wife, raised Lingmeng as her own. 3 4 87
Growing attachment to Mu Zibai
Although wary of her new husband at first, Lingmeng gradually trusted Mu Zibai after hearing about his difficult past and his encouragement that she should not give up. His presence eased her pulse and restored some of her hope. 4
Mu Zibai consistently fed her, cared for her body, massaged her, told her stories, and stayed with her through long nights. In contrast to the isolation she had endured, his company became a source of comfort; she eventually accepted him as her husband in her heart. 7 8 12 15
Her dependence on him became especially clear during treatment at Tianling Temple. When his hand was absent, she felt anxious; when he returned and held her hand again, she immediately calmed down. She also worried that her condition would hinder his future and feared that he would eventually tire of caring for her. 33
Diagnosis and awakening
Monk Lanyuan concluded that Lingmeng was not suffering from Soul Loss Syndrome or a conventional illness. He believed her condition resembled the deep sleep entered by Yao Beasts while accumulating power for a breakthrough, though this explanation neither established that she had been cultivating nor identified the cause of her sleep. 32 41
Mu Zibai eventually used 200,000 points to heal her. After telling her a story about a prince awakening a sleeping princess, he kissed her; Lingmeng woke shortly afterward and remembered everything that had happened while she was unresponsive. 36 37
After awakening, she briefly chose not to reveal it so she could spend quiet time with Mu Zibai. Her recovery was soon known to Xiao E, Wenren Qingyi, and the rest of the family. 38 42 43
Cultivation and elevation in status
Lingmeng later accepted Xia Ruqing's instruction in the qin path. Her extraordinary comprehension allowed her to master its foundations rapidly, and she reached the Mystic Armor Realm after cultivating for only a little more than a month. 72 111 113
She received cultivation resources from Mu Zibai, including a Spirit-Opening Pill and Stalactite Spirit Fluid. Although she worries that she began cultivating too late and lacks a foundation, her aptitude has been recognized as exceptional by Xia Ruqing and the Imperial Advisor. 78 90 113
Imperial edicts elevated Lingmeng from County Princess to princess and granted her Fuzhou as a fief. The same edicts designated Mu Zibai her rightful prince consort and required him to attend the Imperial College. 79
After her recovery and elevation, Lingmeng and Mu Zibai held a formal wedding ceremony. She remains deeply attached to him and has expressed her hope that they will eventually have a child together. 83 85 98

Lingmeng is repeatedly described as exceptionally beautiful. During her deep sleep, she has a delicate figure, fair and tender skin, and a gentle, soft voice after awakening. 1 18 37

Personality
Before her illness, Lingmeng was cheerful and highly conscious of her dignity as a noblewoman. Being conscious but unable to move left her frightened, lonely, and deeply humiliated; she initially viewed death as preferable to remaining wholly dependent on others. 3 5
She is sensitive and considerate, particularly regarding Mu Zibai. Even while wishing he would remain with her, she worries that she is becoming a burden who will limit his potential. 33 36
Following her awakening, Lingmeng remains shy and reserved in intimate situations, but she also reveals a playful, possessive side. She jokingly frames Mu Zibai's care and physical contact during her unconscious period as a debt he must repay with “interest.” 38 39 40
Lingmeng is a highly accomplished literary talent. She confidently solved an entire set of lantern riddles and impressed scholars with her poetry and literary ability. She is also patient and caring toward Xiao E, offering to teach her poetry. 52 53
Though initially discouraged by what she perceived as slow cultivation, Lingmeng is determined to improve. Her conduct toward Wenren Qingyi after the latter's sudden growth also shows a firm, nurturing sense of responsibility as an elder sister. 77 116
Condition and Mystery

- Deep-sleep diagnosis — Monk Lanyuan determined that her body was normal and proposed that she had entered a deep sleep rather than contracted an illness. 32
- Later cultivation — Though she had no known cultivation before or immediately after waking, Lingmeng subsequently became a qin-path cultivator and reached the Mystic Armor Realm. 41 72 111
- Matched cultivation art — Lingmeng secretly cultivates the portion of the Ice Dragon Art paired with Mu Zibai's technique, creating a detectable resonance between them. 90 114
