Background
Liu Shuang was brought to Thousand Wood Temple as a child after her parents effectively forced her onto the cultivation path. Her fear of being abandoned remained a defining wound: she became lively and eager to please her master, Wang Ping, because she feared losing another home. 386
By her early adulthood, she had become a graceful swordswoman practicing Thousand Wood Swordplay alongside Yang Ziping. While Yang Ziping later remained in the Mortal World, Liu Shuang's Dao heart became resolute and she committed herself to cultivation. 39 77
She cultivated the Wood Gathering Art under Wang Ping's guidance. After mastering its first two chapters and completing the spiritual meridian within her body, she entered the Immortal Realm at the Mountain Top Dojo through a dangerous absorption process supported by Wang Ping, Yulian, the Nine Extremes Great Array, and her spirit hound. 213 214
Appearance
Liu Shuang is described as a graceful young woman whose early swordsmanship carried the bearing of a female knight. She commonly wears Daoist robes and keeps her hair bound while cultivating. 39 574
- Wore a green jade coronet gifted by her secular parents when she came of age. 39
- Practiced in a blue Daoist robe. 39
- Later wore her hair in a single spiral coil while cultivating at the Mountain Top Dojo. 574
- In her final years, her appearance became frailer as her Primordial Spirit weakened, though she retained a composed expression. 1129 1155
Personality
Liu Shuang grew from an initially lively and insecure child into a composed, forthright cultivator with a strong sense of responsibility. She earned a good reputation among the cultivators of Nanlin Road for being approachable and respectful. 77 272
Her greatest emotional weakness is abandonment. This fear surfaced violently during her Second Realm advancement, when imagining Wang Ping abandoning her caused her to break down in tears. 386 She is also deeply protective of her disciples, though her favoritism toward Zhao Yu'er contributed to tension between Zhao Yu'er and Liu Ling. 217 711
In later life, Liu Shuang became increasingly detached from ambition. Having accepted the limits of her own path, she chose peaceful remaining years over further dangerous advancement. 1048 1119
“This Disciple feels that my current state is already quite good.” 1119
