Background / History
Zi Luan is a Personal Disciple of Lord Xiaoshan and a senior figure of the Six Hearts Sect. He visited Shangyang Mountain shortly after completing qi refinement, but later admitted that his memories of the mountain had faded amid constant responsibilities. 182
By the time Wang Ping sought Daoist grounds, Zi Luan was handling affairs connected to the Daoist Scripture Hall. He granted Wang Ping Baishui Lake and treated him with a geniality notably different from Daoist Xuanhe's manner. 108
His early relationship with Wang Ping developed through political cooperation. Zi Luan discussed the First Sect crisis during Wang Ping's banquet, assisted Wang Ping's later Third Realm preparations with two talismans containing Primordial Spirit resources, and worked alongside him during regional crises. 182 241 298
Appearance
Zi Luan is typically seen in blue Daoist robes. During his Fourth Realm emergence, he wore a jade crown and was accompanied by a spirit serpent; his presence caused the spiritual energy of the surrounding starry sky to rise and fall with his breathing. 580 980
- Blue, narrow-sleeved Daoist robe during the Jinhuai City crisis. 580
- Long-sleeved blue robe with gray-white cuff and collar patterns as a Six Hearts Sect disciple. 544
- Pale-yellow formal robes, a netted cap, and a white jade belt upon returning from his disappearance. 711
- A spirit serpent, Shenhe, commonly hides within his collar or sleeve. 826 1116
Personality
Zi Luan initially presents himself as genial, courteous, and approachable. He uses chess, tea, and formal conversation to build rapport, particularly with Wang Ping, while carefully testing the intentions of those around him. 172 182
Beneath this outward ease, he is calculating, ambitious, and highly conscious of succession. He helped Changqing's plan against Xiu Yu, sought the possibility of replacing Changqing's Primordial Spirit, and openly pursued the opportunity to reach the Fourth Realm. 544
His caution repeatedly becomes hesitation. Xiu Yu accuses him of having lost his courage, while Daoist Huai Mo observes that Zi Luan's tendency to calculate every detail has dulled his sharpness. 262 881 After disappearing to cultivate in East Continent, he returns markedly humbler, acknowledging Wang Ping's superiority and accepting responsibility for rebuilding the Taiyan Sect. 712 980
