Background / History

Madara's original ambition was to end conflict through the Moon Eye Plan. He believed the Ninja World had become unsalvageable and intended to use Infinite Tsukuyomi to impose an eternal dream of peace. His ideology stood in opposition to Hashirama Senju's ninja-village system, which Madara regarded as fundamentally inadequate. 170 208

Before his first documented return, Madara expected Nagato's Rinnegan to be used to restore him to life and complete his plan. Black Zetsu instead revived him through Impure World Reincarnation after Uchiha Kazuto had already reshaped the Ninja World and captured Nagato. 169 170

Madara initially believed Black Zetsu to be an incarnation of his own will. Through knowledge inherited from parallel worlds, he eventually learned that Black Zetsu was Kaguya Ōtsutsuki's will and that Infinite Tsukuyomi was meant to revive her. He responded by killing Black Zetsu and abandoning the Moon Eye Plan in favor of ruling the world himself. 283

Personality

Madara is intensely proud of his status as a former pinnacle of the Ninja World. His confidence repeatedly leads him to underestimate Uchiha Kazuto, whose Mangekyo Sharingan-based power contradicts everything Madara believes possible from dōjutsu. His inability to explain Kazuto's strength becomes a source of disbelief, dread, and eventually despair. 170 176 336

He is also highly adaptive. Upon seeing that Kazuto had apparently achieved the peace and ninja-led world Madara once sought, he briefly considered cancelling the Moon Eye Plan and assessing Kazuto's rule rather than opposing him. 172 208 Later, faced with the threat of the Empire and parallel worlds, he redirects his ambition toward world unification, military development, and interdimensional resistance. 211 271 283
