| Incomplete and fragmented state | 252 285 | The Earthly Dao states that the world lost its original balance when the Heavenly Dao devoured the Human Dao and stripped the Earthly Dao of its power. Cosmology
The Three Daos
According to the Earthly Dao, Pangu's creation of heaven and earth produced three Dao seeds intended to maintain the world together: the Heavenly Dao, Earthly Dao, and Human Dao 252.
| Dao | Domain | Fate |
|---|---|---|
| Heavenly Dao | Rules, the Three Thousand Great Daos, and countless minor Daos | Matured early during the Ferocious Beast crisis; later devoured the Human Dao and seized power from the Earthly Dao 252 253 |
| Earthly Dao | Mountains, rivers, all things, and the evolution of the world | Was crippled and driven into hiding; its remaining body became the Sea of Great Dao Stars beneath the Sea of Blood 252 |
| Human Dao | Sentient beings, life and death, and the evolution of living things | Devoured by the Heavenly Dao while still a seed 252 |
Great Daos and World Rules
The Primordial World is structured around three thousand Great Daos and innumerable minor Daos. Great Daos form the foundation of heaven and earth, while minor Daos proliferate from them 90 166.
The world’s space and laws are exceptionally stable:
- Flight and earth-traversal require attainment of the Immortal Dao.
- Shattering the world’s space requires at least Grand Unity Golden Immortal strength.
- Tearing through the void is associated with the Saint Dao 215.
- Its rules determine the distinction between great realms and small worlds more than their physical size 164.
Geography
| Location | Description |
|---|---|
| Buzhou Mountain | The foremost divine mountain of the Primordial World, formed from Pangu’s spine. It occupies at least ten trillion li and exerts overwhelming residual divine pressure on climbers 72. |
| Kunlun Mountain | A vast sacred cultivation ground and the former home of the Three Pure Ones. Despite its immense scale, it is described as tiny compared with the world as a whole 27. |
| Four Seas | Occupy roughly ninety percent of the world’s expanse but contain only about one-tenth of its spiritual energy; blessed lands are correspondingly scarce there 156. |
| Sea of Blood | A northern sea formed from Pangu’s navel. It collects filth, blood essence, and Great Dao aura; the Sea of Great Dao Stars lies beneath it 245. |
| Kongtong Mountain | A spiritual mountain near the Human Race’s later territory, surrounded by a million-li plain and spiritual veins 190. |
| Mountain Sea Dragon Realm | An isolated realm attached to the Primordial World. Though resilient enough to endure Quasi-Saint power, it is only a tiny part of the larger world 281 282. |
Regional Division
By the later era, the Primordial World is broadly divided into four regions:
- Central region — surrounds Buzhou Mountain; rich in spiritual energy and treasures, but controlled by the Demon Clan.
- Southern region — territory of the Witch Clan, with a favorable climate and extensive plains.
- Eastern region — abundant in spiritual energy, mountains, rivers, and demons.
- Western region — associated with the Western Sect.
- Northern region — perilous territory dominated by the Sea of Blood, Ancestor Ming He, and the Netherworld powers 211.
History
Creation and Early Calamities
Pangu transformed into the Primordial World after opening heaven and earth. The corpses and lingering wills of the Three Thousand Demon Gods remained beneath Buzhou Mountain, eventually producing the destructive ferocious beasts 252 285.
The premature Heavenly Dao fought the ferocious beasts by wielding the world’s Great Daos and unleashing world-ending Purple Heaven Divine Lightning. In doing so, it abandoned its original balance with the Earthly and Human Daos and became focused on maintaining stability above all else 252.
Subsequent Great Tribulations—including the Dragon–Phoenix Tribulation and the Demon Path Conflict—damaged the world further. Vast fragments became the three thousand great realms and countless small worlds surrounding or attached to the Primordial World 164 277 285.
Ancient Dragon Ruins
The emergence of the ancient Dragon Clan ruins caused the “Myriad Dragons Questioning the Heavens” event. Purple Firmament Divine Lightning annihilated the Bone Dragons and devastated a swamp spanning trillions of miles, leaving scorched land, lava, canyons, and lifeless yellow sands 58 59.
The destruction exposed ancient halls, the Ancestral Dragon Pool, and a buried city, drawing cultivators across the world in search of Dragon Clan treasures 59.
Saint Conflict and Sect Division
When Tongtian and Yuanshi clashed at Kunlun Mountain, their Saintly phantoms tore apart secret realms and damaged the mountain’s foundation. Even their brief confrontation scattered spiritual energy and shattered portions of the blessed land 155.
The Three Pure Ones subsequently separated their sects. Tongtian established the Sect of Interception on Golden Ao Island, while Taishang transformed Shouyang Mountain into a top-tier blessed land for the Human Sect 157.
Restoration and Expansion
Lin Changqing aided the weakened Earthly Dao by condensing Great Dao stars and supplying Dao principles, allowing it to gradually recover 253 254.
After cultivating for 130,000 years beyond a void rift, Lin returned during the Witch–Demon Great Tribulation. He suppressed the conflict, drew out the Earthly and Heavenly Daos, perfected the Earthly Dao, erased the Three Daos’ wills from the Heavenly Dao, and expanded the Primordial World 286.
Heavenly Dao, Merit, and Tribulations
The Heavenly Dao governs the world’s rules but is portrayed as hostile to powers or beings beyond its control. Lin Changqing repeatedly draws heavenly tribulations because of his foreign origin, unusual cultivation, and creation of new Daos 106 166 196.
- Purple Firmament Divine Lightning can annihilate even Grand Unity Golden Immortals under sufficiently concentrated strikes 58.
- Buzhou Mountain’s final trial attempted to erase Lin Changqing’s true spirit because he was not native to the Primordial World; a Divine Demon statue branded his true spirit so that he appeared native 106.
- Heavenly Dao Merit is an inherent rule of the world rather than a reward the Heavenly Dao may freely grant or revoke. Great deeds benefiting the Primordial World must receive merit, though absorbing too much creates a binding connection to the Heavenly Dao 192.
- New Daos can alter the world itself. Lin Changqing’s Literary Dao was engraved into both the Primordial World and the Heavenly Dao 196.
Relationships
- Pangu — Creator whose transformed divine body became the Primordial World; Buzhou Mountain formed from his spine, while the Sea of Blood formed from his navel 72 245.
- Heavenly Dao — Governing Dao of rules; emerged early, consumed the Human Dao, weakened the Earthly Dao, and maintained the world through Great Tribulations 252 253.
- Earthly Dao — Dao governing the world’s physical evolution; reduced to the Sea of Great Dao Stars before Lin Changqing assisted its recovery 252 253.
- Human Dao — Dao of sentient life, life and death, and evolution; devoured by the Heavenly Dao during the early Ferocious Beast crisis 252.
- Lin Changqing — Assisted the Earthly Dao, created new Daos within the world, and ultimately expanded the Primordial World 196 253 286.
- Ancestor Dragon — His legacy, Dragon Pearl, and hidden preparations reveal ancient secrets concerning the world’s fractures and its connection to the Chaos 285 286.
Trivia
- Kunlun Mountain is so enormous that it could contain countless Earths, yet it is described as no larger than a sesame seed relative to the Primordial World 27.
- The Human Race’s territory of nearly one billion miles is described as insignificant compared with the world’s total scale 211.
- The Primordial World may be only a “speck” within the greater Chaos, with stronger beings and other worlds existing beyond it 286.
