Background

Hou Yi is a member of the Houtu Tribe of the Witch Clan. Upon reaching adulthood at two hundred thousand years old, he is required to travel to Buzhou Mountain, where the pressure of Pangu's remains can temper a Witch Clan member's bloodline 72.

He is ambushed by demons en route, but Lin Changqing rescues him. After learning that both seek Buzhou Mountain, Hou Yi proposes that they travel together. His connection to Pangu's bloodline enables him to sense the mountain's direction and greatly accelerates their journey 72.

After Lin Changqing saves him from demon attackers, Hou Yi joins the human cultivator's journey to Buzhou Mountain. He guides their route through his bloodline connection to Pangu and actively hunts demon prey for Lin Changqing to consume 72.

The pair spend thousands of years climbing Buzhou Mountain under immense pressure. Hou Yi's body and bloodline thrive under the mountain's tempering, allowing him to progress far more rapidly than most cultivators 75.

Nine Bell Flower Conflict

Hou Yi and Lin Changqing enter a battle for the Nine Bell Flower, a mid-grade Innate Spiritual Root contested by more than twenty Golden Immortal demons 76.

He destroys a late-stage Golden Immortal bear demon with a thrown-club strike, but is subsequently drawn into a trap orchestrated by the Elephant Lord and other peak Golden Immortal demons 77 80. By activating the Witch Clan Battle Technique, he turns the battle around, badly injures the Elephant Lord, and kills the Silver Wolf 80 82 86.

Black Wolf Battle and Breakthrough

The Silver Wolf's death brings the Grand Unity Golden Immortal Black Wolf to Hou Yi and Lin Changqing. Hou Yi refuses to flee while Lin Changqing is breaking through and withstands the Black Wolf's attacks until he is nearly torn apart 88 89.

After Lin Changqing defeats the Black Wolf, Hou Yi consumes most of its flesh and receives additional nourishment from Buzhou Mountain. He reaches the early Grand Unity Golden Immortal realm and gains a 3,300-zhang true form 93 94.

Pangu Hall and the Sun-Shooting Divine Bow

Hou Yi discovers Witch Clan ruins on Buzhou Mountain and leads Lin Changqing to Pangu Hall. There, he obtains the complete Witch Clan Battle Technique and undergoes further rapid advancement 99.

At the summit, Lin Changqing gives him forty pine nuts and the Innate Bow Embryo. Hou Yi uses his bloodline to refine the embryo into a divine weapon, then finds a naturally grown spiritual-root vine suitable as its bowstring 110 111. He names the completed weapon the Sun-Shooting Divine Bow and declares his intention to one day shoot down the Demon Clan's suns 112.

Witch Clan–Demon Clan Conflict

After descending Buzhou Mountain, Hou Yi and Lin Changqing are pursued by the Demon Clan. Although reluctant to leave Lin Changqing, Hou Yi obeys his sworn brother's order and seeks assistance from the Witch Clan 113.

He later fights alongside Xing Tian and other Witch Clan warriors against the Demon Clan. Xing Tian uses Hou Yi's Sun-Shooting Divine Bow to destroy the Silver Wolf King's Silver Moon and, later, a Golden Crow manifestation 128 131.

Hou Yi becomes a direct target of Di Jun because of the bow. Lin Changqing risks his life and expends a Merit Golden Body to reach and protect him under the Demon Emperor's overwhelming pressure 132.
