History

Tongtian founded the Sect of Interception to give beings of poor aptitude a chance to cultivate. Its central ideal is to “seize a sliver of life,” rejecting the notion that only those with superior origins deserve the Dao. Tongtian openly invited all beings in the Primordial World to hear his teachings at Jade Purity Palace, and those who listened could become his disciples. This policy expanded the Preaching Plaza repeatedly and made the sect a gathering of myriad immortals. 251 277 442

The sect's inclusiveness drew criticism from Tongtian's senior brothers, particularly because it accepted humans, spirits, demons, and other beings without regard to origin. Its growing population also created its greatest vulnerability: the Heavenly Dao deemed its immense number of cultivators a burden on the Primordial World's spiritual energy and selected the Chan Sect to help destroy it during the Great Tribulation of Investiture of the Gods. 243 277

Lin Chuan's arrival fundamentally altered this fate. Initially unwilling to remain in the sect, he was elevated from outer disciple to inner disciple and then personal disciple by Tongtian, who recognized that Lin Chuan possessed knowledge of the sect's future destruction. Lin Chuan later became a Saint while remaining openly loyal to the Sect of Interception rather than establishing an independent faction. 2 5 259 268

Under Lin Chuan's teachings, disciples rapidly advanced in cultivation. The sect's strength drew the concern of the Chan Sect, Western Sect, and other Saints, while its members began expanding into the Western Ox Continent. An Asura Race ambush killed fewer than one hundred members of the expedition despite the sect being caught without its principal commanders; Lin Chuan subsequently used Resurrection to restore the fallen disciples. 263 461 512

In the later era, Tongtian receives one-tenth of the Heavenly Dao's power from Lin Chuan, Yunxiao becomes a Saint, and Patriarch Bodhi joins the sect. The Sect of Interception becomes one of the Three Realms' principal defenders against Chaos Demonic Gods, gaining further fortune through its willingness to protect the Primordial Great World while other powers hesitate. 598 764 775 791
