Background

Lin Fan was reborn on the Douluo Continent after dying from overwork in his previous life. As an infant, he was found abandoned in the wilderness and raised by Ma Xiunuo, a Soul Grand Master from a Martial Soul Hall branch in Nuoding City. Before his Martial Soul awakening, he feared receiving a noncombat Martial Soul and initially had no apparent system or advantage. 1

On the eve of his awakening, the Fate Binding System activated. It allowed him to bind two people and share their Fortune and Martial Soul advancement; Lin Fan selected Bibi Dong and Qian Renxue. Through the system, he acquired and fused aspects of their Martial Souls, awakening the Six-Winged Angel and Purgatory Spider Emperor as Twin Martial Souls. 1 2

His Angel Martial Soul drew the attention of Qian Daoliu and the Worship Hall, while Bibi Dong claimed him as her disciple. Lin Fan exploited their disagreement by proposing a split training schedule, learning the Purgatory Spider Emperor from Bibi Dong and the Six-Winged Angel from Qian Daoliu. Qian Daoliu later accepted being addressed as “Grandpa Qian.” 9

Lin Fan is introduced as a young boy, later appearing as a tall, straight-backed student in Martial Soul Hall’s white-and-gold academy uniform. He commonly retains training weights beneath his clothing. 1 17

Lin Fan is ambitious, calculating, and highly opportunistic. From binding Bibi Dong and Qian Renxue for their Fortune and potential advancement to arranging instruction from both Bibi Dong and Qian Daoliu, he consistently seeks the greatest possible advantage. 1 9

He is confident to the point of arrogance in battle, openly challenging ten Golden Class students at once and treating opponents he considers weak with contempt. 17 18 He also endures punishing training and dangerous Soul Ring absorption with stubborn determination, repeatedly choosing risks that exceed conventional limits. 12 15
