Background

Ye Xinglan first appears as a Shrek Academy disciple who rushes to Xu Lizhi’s defense after Gu Yue severely burns him. She demands that Zhao Tao’s group take responsibility, despite Xu Lizhi’s cowardice and dishonesty during the incident. Her loyalty to her academy and companion leads directly to a confrontation with Zhao Tao. 69

She challenges Zhao Tao on a beach, intending to uphold Shrek Academy’s dignity and avenge Xu Lizhi’s humiliation. Zhao Tao defeats her with his self-created Five Finger Fist Heart Sword, stopping the blade a hair’s breadth from her neck. Ye Xinglan accepts the loss only reluctantly and declares that she will face him again at the Tianhai Alliance Grand Competition. 70
