Background

Wu Changkong was a gifted Shrek Academy student whose career and resolve were shattered by Long Bing’s death. He left Shrek Academy abruptly, later viewing the decision as something that required atonement through properly training the next generation. 14 20

He became a teacher at Eastsea Academy and took charge of the academy’s worst first-year class, Class Five. Rather than lower his standards, he declared that he would make the students the strongest among their peers within six years. 14

After years of avoiding his past, Shen Yi persuaded him to resume facing reality. His renewed determination immediately coincided with his breakthrough to Soul Sage. 116

Wu Changkong was also a Tang Sect elder. After Zhao Tao showed him the consequences of Tang San’s descent in Dragon Valley, he accepted Zhao Tao’s account, broke with the Tang Sect, and joined the Douluo Great Love Family Alliance. 187 218

Appearance

Wu Changkong is a tall, strikingly handsome man whose appearance and aura make an immediate impression on his students. 14

  • Over 1.9 meters tall with a lean build. 14
  • Usually wears a white suit. 14
  • Has sharp eyes, a high straight nose, and long blue hair. 14
  • Radiates an icy aura that makes others feel chilled. 14
  • Becomes even colder in demeanor when wielding the Frost Sky Sword. 20

Personality

Wu Changkong is stern, proud, and economical with words. He expects students to endure hardship without complaint, openly tells those unwilling to work to transfer away, and treats practical combat as essential preparation for real battle. 14 19

Despite his harsh methods, he is attentive to individual potential. He gives tailored advice, changes training plans when students’ physical condition proves inadequate, and recognizes exceptional talent without hesitation. 19 21

He is also willing to admit fault. After being forced to reveal his Martial Soul despite promising not to use it, he acknowledged that he had spoken out of turn and praised the students for exceeding his expectations. 20

Abilities & Skills

Frost Sky Sword

Wu Changkong’s Martial Soul is a pale-blue longsword with a freezing aura capable of suppressing enemies through overwhelming cold. 20

  • Its appearance can freeze attacks in place, as shown when it dispersed Guang Biao’s tornado with a casual upward sword motion. 25
  • Its cold can freeze an opponent’s Soul Power and, against a sufficiently weaker target, suppress the temporal effect of Zhao Tao’s Time Burial Sword. 20
  • Wu Changkong uses precise sword qi even without his Martial Soul, cutting apart Blue Silver Grass and intercepting elemental attacks with a wooden sword. 19

Frost Mark and Frost Mist

Wu Changkong’s first two Soul Skills are the hundred-year skills Frost Mark and Frost Mist. 61

  • Frost Mark releases numerous sword threads through the Frost Sky Sword. 61
  • Frost Mist creates a pale mist around him that adds pressure during close combat. 61
  • He used both skills against Class Zero to force the group to withstand combat pressure and improve. 61

Frost Ice Language

His fourth Soul Skill enlarges the Frost Sky Sword into a seven-meter blue greatsword. 157

  • Creates a much larger weapon with intense freezing pressure. 157
  • Serves as the foundation for his fifth Soul Skill, Frost Language Ice Wheel. 157

Frost Language Ice Wheel

Wu Changkong’s fifth Soul Skill splits Frost Ice Language into nine four-meter sub-swords arranged as a massive sword wheel. 157

  • Provides wide-area defense and offensive pressure. 157
  • Four sub-swords were shattered when Zhao Tao broke through his defenses using Future Body and As If No Time Had Passed. 157

Condense Frost

His sixth Soul Skill reforms the remaining sub-swords into Frost Ice Language and coats the weapon in layers of extreme frost. 157

  • Used to block Zhao Tao’s Time Burial Sword. 157
  • Produces frost capable of freezing space and threatening the target’s body and Soul Power. 157

Instruction and Combat Analysis

Wu Changkong specializes in identifying weaknesses through direct combat and giving students targeted correction. 19 21

  • Emphasizes physical conditioning, basic combat technique, meditation, and teamwork. 16 19 21
  • Uses repeated practical combat and a teaching rod to punish mistakes immediately. 36
  • Identified Tang Wulin’s potential as a control-type Soul Master, advised Gu Yue to pursue elemental fusion, and recommended that Zhao Tao train a movement technique. 21
  • Recognized Xu Xiaoyan’s Star Wheel Ice Staff as a miraculous Martial Soul and confirmed her place in Class Zero. 61
